Catch Up Q&A with Iain Brown

This week I caught up with Iain Brown of Jordanhill AFC and went through an interview. He is a player and committee member of Jordanhill in the Greater Glasgow PAFL.

Name? - Iain Brown

Club? - Jordanhill AFC

Role in club? - Player/Committee Member

Which manager/player would you compare yourself too and why?

Always a tough answer to give as I don’t really compare myself to professional players. Always admired Colin Hendry’s passion and grit when I was a kid – probably have to go for him. A fellow Ginger too.

New signings? How has pre season gone?

We are in a fortunate position to have kept our squad together from last year. We intend to bring in some younger players thanks to our association with Giffnock Soccer Centre. They have provided us the base for a really strong future. However, Pre-season has been a nightmare with so many teachers in the team away on holiday (me being one of them).

First game and how do you feel it'll go?

We face Robslee, winners of the first division last year, and no doubt it will be really tough. We have always had very competitive games against them through the years. We should be confident with our squad and the fact we have a very good record at Norwood.

Which team you support?

The famous Glasgow Rangers

Sporting Hero?

Roger Federer – Cool, calm and collected

Goal for the season?

I think realistically for us is to survive in the league we are playing in this season. Due to the restructure of the league we were promoted despite finishing 5th. However, we need to take confidence in the fact we beat Eaglesham and Newton Vale (1st and 2nd respectively last year) convincingly away from home. We had a run of terrible performances after Christmas last year and really dented our chances of the title. I would like to see us more street wise defensively (Fair Play Trophy has been won too many times!) and show more conviction in front of goal. I would love another run in the Scottish Cup, especially after getting to Round 6 in 2015/16 season.

What 3 things would you take on a desert island with you?

A boat, A bottle of Rum and Scarlett Johanson

Proudest moment as a sportsman?

I played in the Skye and Lochalsh AFL when I was a younger man, being a part of the Portree FC team that won 11 league titles in a row. In May, Jordanhill travelled to Skye to play Portree and won the Davie Annan memorial trophy. It was a proud moment to have my current team compete against a club that is close to my heart, for a very good cause. Another would be achieving the treble as a coach in the senior schools football team, winning the finals at Ibrox and Parkhead.

Quickest Player?

Jamie Parker or Toby Cole, haven’t came up against another team with two quicker players. They can hopefully do some damage this season.

Worst Dress Sense?

Its hard to pick one because there are so many. I would have say our central defender Mark Deacon. He turned up one day with a pair of skinny skinny jeans and a shirt with multi-colour buttons. Fanny of the year.

Who tells the jokes in the Club?

The one and only Mark ‘Jive’ Thornton (our manager). He is one of a kind, loves dressing up and has the best stories from nights out. He once turned up randomly dressed as Frank McAvenie and featured in his column for the Sun. Legend.

Who plays the music before a game?

Jake Wilson Aka DJ Snake. He introduced music to the dressing room a couple of seasons ago, despite some negative feelings from the senior players in the squad; particularly our captain Andy McCall. Andy is now a full subscriber to music before the games thanks to Jakes taste in music.
