First weekend of Greater Glasgow League

Division 1

Eastwood Parkmount - 3

Jordanhill - 2

A really entertaining game, between two sides that both got promotion from division 2 last season. The game was dictated by the weather, with the wind playing a pivotal factor for both teams. Eastwood took the lead after 30 minutes. Jordanhill held on till half time.

Half Time: Eastwood Parkmount 1 - 0 Jordanhill.

A goal within 5 minutes of the second half made it 1-1, the rhythm was in Jordanhill's favour until they gifted Eastwood Parkmount a valuable goal. Jordanhill responded within the minute and it was game on. Jordanhill hit the woodwork 3 times and couldn't make more of the rebounds. Another silly goal to concede for Jordanhill, and Eastwood Parkmount held on to win. A draw probably would have been a fair result, but Eastwood performed well in the second half against the wind. Eastwood Parkmount were very strong defensively.

Division 3

Newshot AFC - 3 - Ross Stevenson, Liam Cambell (2)

Westcliffe - 2 - Mutter (Pen), Marc Laird

The game started with a penalty awarded to Westcliffe early on, after a tackle in the box from Newshot. The score was not 1-0 for long, until Westcliffe went 2-0 up as Marc Laird scored and extended Westcliffe's lead. Newshot had their backs against the wall for most of the first half as they were playing into the wind. They were handed a lifeline on the stroke of half time, courtesy of Newshot striker Ross Stevenson who finished a through ball from Ryan Arthur.

Half Time: Newshot 1-2 Westcliffe

Even for the start of the second half from both Newshot and Westcliffe, in this cracking opening day game, but it was a very substitute that made the difference for Newshot. Enter, left midfielder Liam Cambell. The Newshot boss brought on left winger Liam Cambell on the 60th minute, to try and change the game and that is exact what he did. Cambell scored on the 66th and the 68th minute and turned the game on it's head, making the score Newshot 3 Westcliffe 2, with just over 20 minutes left on the clock. The weather was not brilliant, towards the end of the match. A fair game ended 3-2 to start the season in a cracking division 3 match. Man of the match: Chrissy Aitken - Aitken ran the defense ragged for Newshot against Westcliffe, he didn't stop for 90 minutes and the result was great.

They had a good result at half time as Third Lanark went into the break 1-1, with Robbie Sinclair scoring the goal. In the second half they had a strong back wind in the second half and they dominated.
