I hope you enjoy the build up below.
Division 1
Erskine vs. Eaglesham
Both sides are set to begin their Division 1 seasons as the second game in this league. Erskine play their first game of the season in general, so they will want to blow the pre season cobwebs off early on. Eaglesham on the other hand, have already warmed up as beat South Lochaber at home in the Presidents League Cup, 4-1. With only one game gone in division 1, as Eastwood Parkmount 'A' beat Jordanhill in what was a very exciting first game of the season. Could of gone either way and a game played in bad weather, but good spirit, that ended 3-2.
Division 2
North Kelvin Sports vs. Rannoch
Rannoch travel to North Kelvin Sports, who have started their season, in a 10 goal thriller. They unfortunately were on the losing end of their game, but scoring 4 goals on opening day is a reason to smile, but it is the defensive record of conceding 6 goals to Rannoch Colts.
Third Lanark vs. Ashvale Victoria
On Wednesday at 6:30pm, Third Lanark host Ashvale Victoria. Ashvale were beaten at home 6-1 on Saturday at the hands of Bellaire, they will be hoping to bounce back in style, but Third Lanark will be hoping to start from where they left off as they beat Carradale at the weekend 4-2. They had to travel a long way to this game, but it was worth it. Star man from the game, Alan Semple will be hungry to once again get a win for his team as they begin action in Division 2. Goalscorers Robbie Sinclair, Qaasim Ali, Scott Gemmell and Jonny Scott, finished well and put the game out of reach on Saturday and they will hope to take their form into the League opener and the first game at their home ground. It was 1-1 at half time on Saturday and then Third Lanark ran away with it at the end in the second half. Their dominant second half display may be down to fitness, so that will help on Wednesday during a midweek fixture. Great news for Third Lanark on the squad front, the skipper is back. Duncan McIntyre is back for Third Lanark. He wasn’t able to travel to Campbeltown on Saturday but he is back tonight. His team mates speak very highly of the skipper, describing him as ‘very calm and composed from the back’. As one of the longest serving players at the club, it appears they rightfully have a lot of respect for the skipper.
The focus is also being put on last weeks man of the match, Alan Semple. Semple has been described as a very dangerous player. His team mates have said that he is ‘very energetic and a skillful midfielder’. Alan Semple is always up there is the top goal scorers for Third Lanark, and he is the man when it comes to long range efforts finding the nets.
Tonight will be huge for Third Lanark as they hope to get a great start in the Greater Glasgow division 2.
Division 3
Bellaire vs. Boswell
Bellaire thrashed Ashvale Victoria away from home on Saturday. They won 6-1 in the Presidents League Cup, refereed by Del Dempster. Boswell on the other hand earned a 2-2 draw at home to Crookston Castle.
Presidents League Cup Section 3
Colquhoun United vs. Westcliffe
A losing start for Colquhoun United and Westcliffe to start the season with a defeat. It was a good start for Westcliffe as they Mutter converted a penalty and then Marc Laird made it two, but unfortunately it was a tough day for the first day of the season. They were away from home and have got themselves underway. They will hope to beat Culquhoun United away from home on Wednesday night.
Helensburgh vs. St Patricks FP
St Patricks FP are up and running in the Presidents League Cup Section 3 as they already have 3 points. They beat Culquhoun United 4-2 at home on Saturday and on Sunday they travel to Helenburgh in the last kick off at 8pm. They will hope to keep a good start to the season going.
Presidents League Cup Section 4
Eastwood Parkmount 'B' vs. Calderglen
Beware of the B Team! Eastwood Parkmount B Team were brilliant on the opening day as they beat St Thomas 5-3 away from home. A good weekend for both Eastwood Parkmount teams and they go again against Calderglen at home on Wednesday night. Calderglen have not played so far this season, so it will be the fear of the unknown, but Eastwood Parkmount B will take confidence into this game.
Crookston Castle vs. St Thomas
The Castle host St Thomas, and they are coming off a stalemate of 2-2 on opening day. St Thomas on the other hand were beaten, but scored 3 goals in this game. Defensively they conceded 5, but they have been good going forward. They are on the late kick off at the Castle as they start at 8pm.
Presidents League Cup Section 6
John Street vs. Busby
On Saturday, John Street were defeated by East Kilbride Y.M. 5-2. Although the positives they can take from the game is scoring twice, they must be sharper defensively. On the other hand, their opponents Busby, did not score in their opening game against Newton Vale. This game is in the balance and going to a good one to watch as the two teams must win this one.
Presidents League Cup Section 7
Rannoch Colts vs. Eastwood Parkmount 'A'
Eastwood Parkmount 'A' who are top of the top division, despite there only being 1 game in the division, they still read top. A great performance on opening day against Jordanhill in what was a very exciting first game of the season. Could of gone either way and a game played in bad weather, but good spirit, that ended 3-2. They will be hoping for more of the same as they face Rannoch Colts on Wednesday night.
Presidents League Cup Section 8
Dynamo East Kilbride vs. Cambria
An unlucky result for Dynamo East Kilbride on Saturday as they went to Westerlands ‘A’, as they lost 1-0. Dynamo East Kilbride will be slightly concerned that they did not score, but that was away from home. Tonight they host Cambria, but they will need that impressive defensive display to be even better tonight as they face Cambria, who ran 8 goals in on Saturday against Westerlands G.G. Cambria have been clinical going forward and they will hope that this does not change tonight. On Tuesday Night there was a game in this Section of the Presidents League Cup, as Westerlands ‘A’ defeated Westerlands G.G. 3-1, in a match refereed by Del Dempster. Westerlands ‘A’, will find themselves top of the table in Presidents League Cup Section 8 as they have 6 points, but should Cambria win, they can go top of the table.
Thursday 24th August 2017
If Great Glasgow Football on a Wednesday night wasn’t enough of a treat, here are Thursday’s fixtures, and they are big ones. Four good teams are in action tonight and they can be followed on twitter @__SportCentral.
Presidents League Cup Section 5
Jordanhill vs. Newshot
Newshot won their first game in division 3, as they won 3-2. Ross Stevenson broke the seal scoring the opening goal and then they brought on winger Liam Cambell who scored twice to win the game for Westcliffe. Ryan Arthur provided the assist, but man of the match Chrissy Aitken is hoping to continue his form, as he did not stop running for 90 minutes on Saturday. On the other hand, Jordanhill played their first game of the season in division 1 on Saturday. Jordanhill fell short to Eastwood Parkmount, but they put in a great performance in the match. They came very close as they hit the woodwork three times in a row, but little mistakes cost Jordanhill. They go again tonight in Presidents League Cup, but the opening day is gone now and they can settle into a rhythm. This will be a good game, with a level playing field, in what hopefully is better weather, but one I am looking forward too.
Presidents League Cup Section 6
East Kilbride Y.M. vs. Newton Vale
The two unbeaten teams in this group in the President's League Cup Section 6. East Kilbride scored 5 goals on the opening day. The goals were shared as they enjoyed a good all round performance to kick start. Ross Anderson scored twice for East Kilbride on Saturday and he was supported by Scott Anderson, Mark O’Donnell and Jack Brown. These four men will hope to get an important win for East Kilbride Y.M.. Newton Vale on the other hand, won 3-0 at the Presidents League Cup Section 6. Their goal scorers Kevin Coyle, Marc McFarlane and Sean Donaghy will be in action again tonight as the two teams that have started their season by picking up wins in this competition go head to head. This could have a massive impact on the way the President’s League Cup Section 6 will turn out. This match could go either way in my opinion, and is one of the match exciting ones in the midweek matches.
