EMCC ready to Roar again


Last time EMCC played Mississippi Gulf Coast it sparked their current win streak. East Mississippi Community College have won their last 12 games, including their win in a brilliant match with Jones County Junior College last week.

In the 2016 campaign, they lost their first game using only Freshmen in their squad, due to the events that surrounded that game of the 2015 season. They narrowly lost this one, but then the win against Mississippi Gulf Coast CC then sparked the win streak they are on today.

1st Quarter - JCJC 7-7 EMCC

2nd Quarter - JCJC 14-14 EMCC

3rd Quarter - JCJC 34-30 EMCC

4th Quarter - JCJC 34-47 EMCC

The Box Score shows how the first two quarters were a back and forth contest with neither side getting the upper hand over the other. In the 3rd quarter, Jones County Junior College took a slight lead going into the final quarter.

One thing we have learned about East Mississippi Community College, during the Netflix Documentry Last Chance U, is that when their backs are against the wall, that si when they are at their best. In the final quarter, EMCC scored 17 points and took a well deserved win away from the first game of the season.

Starting Quarterback Lindsey Scott Junior was brilliant all night for his new side EMCC as he passed for 429 yards. On the night, Jones County did rush more yards than EMCC, as they rushed for 201 yards, but it was the quality of the 172 rushing yards from EMCC that won them the match.

Inspiring coach Buddy Stephens, will be very happy with the fact his side are 1-0 as he enters his 10th year with the Lions of Scooba, East Mississippi. Coach Stephens took charge of his 100th craeer game with the Lions, he has been fantastic throughout them all.

Tongiht, EMCC face Mississippi Gulf Coast as they look to make it 2-0. They will take confidence from their come back victory at Sullivan-Windham Field last Thursday night.

Born leader and dual threat quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr will be ready to go again and will look to lead his side to a victory over MGCCC.

In recent history, the EMCC Lions and the MGCCC Bulldogs have been the best in the area, as they have met many times in the MACJC state Semi Finals three times in four years. Every time, the Lions have come out on top. Coach Buddy Stephen has coached against Mississippi Gulf Coast 10 times, and his side has come out on top, 8 of those times.

In a week when the NFL begins, tonight with the Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs, but kicks into action on Sunday, and tonight's EMCC fixture is the perfect mouth waterer to wet the appetite.

Coahoma Community College

The side that captured a lot of hearts for their fight and the respect they have shown. They deserved their win last week, and should go into tonight's game knowing they have a lot more fans that they think.

Last Thursday night, Coahoma earned a brilliant victory over Southwest Mississippi CC. CCC won 35-20, their last fixture was in 2015, a season in with they lost all 9 games that they played. Their last victory came in October 2013 when they beat Itawamba CC 47-14, but since then they have struggled, including a 69-0 loss to EMCC. Despite their defeat to EMCC, every player and every coach showed a great deal of respect earning the hearts of a lot of fans who tuned into Last Chance U.

Last weeks huge win for Coahoma will have made a lot of people smile and feel very happy for the ultimate underdogs. They started their season by beating Southern Prep in a 6-0 win, so they are currently on a 2 game win streak. They will look to take this on with them into tonight's clash with Copiah-Lincoln CC.
