Goals Galore in the Greater Glasgow League
Hi guys, a massive weekend in the Greater Glasgow Football League. Next weekend is mainly West of Scotland Cup action, I am excited for this. A packed round up below of this weekends action and don't forget to check out the twitter, @__SportCentral (two underscores). I really appreciate the support from everyone involved and will continue to publish the round ups and previews. Please provide any feedback, it is always welcome. DIVISION ONE Cambria - 1 Westerlands 'A' - 1 A very good game ends in a draw this weekend as Cambria hosted Westerlands 'A', but the score was 1-1 and a point each. Cambria have been impressive in the league and that includes a win when they had a goal keeper playing in defense. They had some keep players back this weekend and earned a draw. They remain unbeaten in league action having won one and drawn two. An important point for Westerlands 'A' as they earn their first point in the league this season. They will be pleased to have travelled to an in form Cambria side and come back with a point away from home. After this positiive result, Westerlands 'A' will hope to put in another good display at home next Saturday as they remain in division 1 action against Eaglesham. Erskine - 7 Calderglen - 2 Erskine begin their league action with a bang. They played their first game of the division 1 season this Saturday and they scored 7 times. This well drilled side will be pleased with the start and will now look to continue from a great platform. It was also the first game of the season for Calderglen and a tough one. They were very good in the President's League Cup and will hope to put this one to the back of their minds and continue the cup form into next weekends, West of Scotland Cup match. After a tough day we managed to speak to Calderglen, who said “Extremely disappointing start to a league season. Felt 7-2 wasn't a fair reflection of second half efforts but no complaints. All the best to Erskine in coming season”. Calderglen will remain positive and goals from Gillies and Barbour were excellent, there are positives to take from the game. St. Patrick's FP - 4 Eaglesham - 2 St Patrick's FP will be pleased with a good win at home and their first in the league and Eaglesham will be dissappointed with the loss, as this is the first in the league for Eaglesham. A game that could have gone either way. With everyone in West of Scotland Cup action on Saturday, Eaglesham are in division 1 action away at Westerlands 'A', they will hope to bounce back and pick up a victory. Newton Vale - 3 Jordanhill - 0 Newton Vale have been excellent this season and they will be pleased about the victory this weekend. They were clinical in their win and will be please about the clean sheet. Jordanhill have found how tough the top division of the Greater Glasgow League is, but they will keep fighting and will move onto next weekend, and results will come. Newton Vale has been brilliant from set pieces and that was proven Saturday as two of their goals came from corners. The goals we're scored by Martin Jones, Andy Campbell and Darren Hampton. Newton Vale will be proud of how they have started the season off as they are currently top of the league having not lost in the league. They continue to go from strength to strength. Jordanhill enjoyed a lot of possession throughout the game, but didn't get the result. Two first half goals from Newton Vale put them in a strong position and Jordanhill could not recover. Jordanhill have spoke of how Newton Vale were a very good side. Jordanhill look forward and remain positive ahead of next week's tough West of Scotland Cup match against a side who have won the whole thing twice in the last 10 years. Division 1 league table: 7 - Newton Vale - (3) - GD: 7 6 - Eastwood Parkmount 'A' - (3) - GD: 2 5 - Cambria - (3) - GD: 1 3 - Erskine - (1) - GD: 5 3 - Eaglesham - (2) - GD: 2 3 - St. Patrick's FP - (2) - GD: -2 1 - Westerlands 'A' - (2) - GD: -2 0 - Jordanhill - (2) - GD: -4 0 - Dynamo East Kilbride - (1) - GD: -4 0 - Calderglen - (1) - GD: -5 DIVISION TWO Crookston Castle - 5 Ashvale Victoria - 3 Two out of two for Crookston Castle, they have been brilliant to start this season. and they beat Ashvale Victoria who haven't won in their first three games of the season. Crookston Castle will continue to play wel East Kilbride Y.M. - 5 FC Baillieston - 2 Another good win for East Kilbride Y.M. as they continue their run of form. They beat a FC Baillieston side that are yet to win in the league. They recorded an 11-0 in the league and Saturday they scored 5. Second placed East Kilbride will be more than happy with where they are in division 2 this season, they will hope to continue this after next weeks West of Scotland Cup match. Scott Campbell of East Kilbride scored a hat trick and this wasn't spread out over the 90 minutes, unbelievably this was within just 20 minutes. An excellent performance from Scott Campbell who has now increased his tally to 11 goals in the last 4 games. He was well supported by Scott Anderson and Ross Anderson. I spoke to East Kilbride YM this week and they said, “Competitive game but was out of sight by half time at 3-0, scored a 4th and then took the foot off the gas and FC Ballieston scored a a great goal from 25 yards out in the top corner. We got it to 5-1 and then again conceded another consolation goal for FC Ballieston. A great performance against a team who will do well this year”. Eastwood Parkmount 'B' - 3 John Street - 1 Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ have had a tricky start to the season, to begin with they had excellent weekend form and struggled mid week, but this Saturday they were brilliant. They beat John Street and picked up a very important 3 points. We spoke to Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ have described the first half for us all and they have said, “John street started the stronger team pinning us back but as the first half went on we started to take control and a goal from Gary Bennet running onto a through ball and nice finish saw us 1 nil up and pretty comfortable until half time”. Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ went on to describe the second half, saying, “Second half started with us quite comfortable and our keeper not having to do much at all. A second goal from urham asif seemed to secure the points however this spurred John Street on and threw everything at us and pulled one back with 15 to go from a corner and resulting scramble saw the John Street striker bundle it in. Now John St had the incentive to go for it and continued the pressure. A dubious free kick outside the box gave John St a golden opportunity with 5 minutes to play. The free kick was heading for the top corner when EpM keeper Peter Mcmillan tipped it off the post and bar to drop on the line and a goal line clearance from Alan Shaw cleared the danger which broke to Adam Van Der brink who found himself one on one with the defender and ran half the pitch and slotted home to finally secure the points. A great game with two teams going for it”. A brilliant summary provided by Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ who will be very happy and content about their performance this weekend, once again valuable saves to keep his side in the game by Peter McMillan. Third Lanark - 7 Rannoch - 1 Third Lanark continue to be brilliant in the league as they are not about to say that they have won 4 out of 4 in the league. They scored 7 this weekend, and Semple made it 9 goals in his last 3 games. They continue to do well. They will take comfort in the fact they had 6 different goalscorers this weekend and that Semple is still on fire. Alongside Alan Semple scoring his brace, Third Lanark had 5 other goal scorers. Jojo Lang, Colin Galbraith, Luke Pye, Josh Graham and another goal for Robbie Sinclair. Third Lanark are ready for West of Scotland Cup and the confidence will be running high and rightly so, being serious contenders in the competition along with many other clubs in the Greater Glasgow League. Third Lanark is a club with a rich and interesting history and more importantly, they have many exciting times ahead. Westerlands G.G. - 3 Colquhoun United - 1 A good win for Westerlands G.G, another win in the league, despite a testing President’s League Cup, they have been excellent in the league and picked up their second game out of the three. First game for Colquhoun United in the league and tough start, they will be ready to get back in action and doing well. Division 2 league table: 12 - Third Lanark - (4) - GD: 10 6 - East Kilbride Y.M. - (3) - GD: 13 6 - Eastwood Parkmount 'B' - (2) - GD: 4 6 - Westerlands G.G. - (3) - GD: 3 6 - Crookston Castle - (2) - GD: 3 3 - John Street - (3) - GD: -1 3 - Rannoch - (3) - GD: -3 0 - Colquhoun United - (1) - GD: 0 0 - FC Baillieston - (2) - GD: -5 0 - Ashvale Victoria - (3) - GD: -6 0 - North Kelvin Sports - (2) - GD: -16 DIVISION THREE Bellaire - 1 Westcliff - 1 A draw at Bellaire, against Westcliff in division 3, and a point for each side in their first games of the season. Both sides have played well in the President’s League Cup and they will both be content by picking up a point on the first game of the season. Busby - 2 Helensburgh - 6 Helensburgh were brilliant away from home to beat Busby. Helensburgh’s David Sinclair was in a free scoring mood as his hat trick was just what was ordered. Del Park scored again this weekend and Brooks Tadlock scored twice to seal a fantastic victory for Helensburgh. We managed to catch up with Helensburgh this weekend and they have said, "Got to be happy with the start we've had this season. In Saturday's game we went 4-0 up in just over 15 minutes of the kick off. Credit tho to the Busby lads who kept plugging away and never gave up. They got one back just before half time but any chance of a comeback for them vanished when our fifth went in 5 minutes after the restart". St Thomas - 0 Boswell - 2 Boswell were excellent in their 2-0 victory with both goals coming from Berthold Tonle. Man of the Match was awarded to Steven Odunewu of Boswell and they deserved the three points. St Thomas have started well this season, but struggled against a very good Boswell side. St Thomas will go again next weeks and try and put this weekend behind them. Boswell were positive after this one and have said, “First league game of the season and another clean sheet. Another solid performance from defence to attack”. Boswell were not a complete squad today missing a “few key players” and they are positive that despite this they have picked up a win, which is a great example of the strength and depth the club has. Boswell say that they have come a long way since leaving the P&D. Boswell went on to say, “And we also had a rare appearance from the Rolly goalie Paul Quail who made 2 cracking saves in each half must have been inspired by manger/keeper Bobo”. After this positive and successful performance, Boswell are ready for West of Scotland Cup action against Cambria at home. South Lochaber Thistle - 0 Newshot - 7 A fiery game took place at South Lochaber Thistle this weekend and a good result for Newshot. Three out of three for a very well drilled Newshot side. South Lochaber will be looking to return to form in the West of Scotland Cup. Newshot were rampant in their win and will be happy with their position on top of the tree. Both sides will be ready to move on to next weekend and compete in the West of Scotland Cup. We spoke to Newshot in the week and they have said, “A must win game for us due to a shock cup upset in penalties last season so we had unfinished business with SLT. 3 mins in a reckless tackle in the box led to us going one nil up from the spot. We dominated the game for 90 mins but their keeper kept them in it leaving it 1-0 at halftime. Ross Stevenson put us 2 ahead 10 mins into 2nd half before the flood gates opened. Man of the match Lewis Hammel nearly burst the net with a Jorg Albertz esc free kick and a second goal from captain Ross McLean before super sub Liam Cambell put us 5 up. SLTs heads were down and they had thrown in the towel by this point and found themselves with 10 men after their left back saw red. New signing Chrissy Aitken again showed his class with 2 late goals to well and truly bury the game”. South Lochaber Thistle have said that, "An embarrassing result where we were comprehensively outplayed by the league leaders in every facet of game. Congratulations to Newshot who have strengthened over the close season and are looking like strong contenders for the title this year." Division 3 league table: 9 - Newshot - (3) - GD: 11 6 - Helensburgh - (2) - GD: 6 4 - Rannoch Colts - (3) - GD: -3 3 - St Thomas - (2) - GD: 3 3 - Boswell - (1) - GD: 2 1 - Bellaire - (1) - GD: 1 1 - Westcliff - (2) - GD: -1 1 - Busby - (3) - GD: -7 0 - Carradale - (1) - GD: -2 0 - South Lochaber Thistle - (2) - GD: -9
