Review: PROGRESS Wrestling: Chase the Sun 2017
PROGRESS Wrestling: Chase The Sun 2017 As Chapter 55 of PROGRESS Wrestling began, the walls of Alexandra Palace were rocking. Huge matches to be had on the British Independent Wrestling Scene. It is hard to have a poor show in the UK with Tyler Bate, Pete Dunne, Zack Sabre Jr and Marty Scull on the card and Chase the Sun did not disappoint. PROGRESS Wrestling is a brilliant company and has been on its journey since 2012, in the Garage in Islington, with just 323 people. The company has been brilliant since day one, and the opening show included talents you can see today, such as Marty Scurll and Zack Sabre Jr, who competed against each other in the first chapter of the journey, a match that can be seen renewed at Chase the Sun, and 5 years down the line. It also included Noam Dar, who is now in the WWE and the Scottish Supernova has been brilliant as a wrestler and an entertainer in the Cruiserweight division. The future of PROGRESS Wrestling, as well as the British Independent wrestling scene look very strong, the talent on show at Chase of Sun 2017 was immense and it will only get better. Please take every chance you can to have a look at PROGRESS Wrestling and support them in what they do. All four PROGRESS Wrestling Championships were on the line, while also including a packed number 1 contendership match and two unbelievable singles matches. What’s next for PROGRESS Wrestling? The next stop on this epic PROGRESS Wrestling journey is the Electric Ballroom in Camden. It is going to electric by name and by nature when PROGRESS arrives. This takes place at the end of October, the 29th. I will be reporting regularly about PROGRESS Wrestling as well as tweeting plenty of content on @__SportCentral (two underscores). Please make sure you give it a follow and enjoy the report. I do really appreciate any feedback, good or bad, and it is great to hear opinions on the event and the matches.
PROGRESS Tag Team Title Ladder Match 1. CCK (Chris Brookes & Kid Lykos) defeated. British Strong Styles (Trent Severn & Tyler Bate) - Title Change Not many things you will see are as strange as CCK, the team that includes Chris Brookes & Kid Lykos, but it works and at Chase of Sun 2017 it worked perfectly. They beat the very impressive, now former, tag team champions British Strong Style, a team that includes the formidable Trent Severn and Tyler Bate. They showed a lot of fortitude to beat the impressive British Strong Style, that includes Tyler Bate, who I believe is one of the best and the most promising wrestlers on the British wrestling scene, and at just 20 years of age, a wrestler that is going to be huge all around the globe. CCK are now two time PROGRESS Wrestling champions and they will be hoping this reign is longer than their 14 days reign in June this year.
ROGRESS Women's Title Match 2. Toni Storm (C) defeated. Dahila Black Toni Storm retains her PROGRESS Women’s title by defeating Dahila Black. Storm is the first ever Women’s champion of PROGRESS wrestling and extends her reign to 107 days, an impressive accomplishment in a very competitive and growing market in the UK. Storm’s victory added to a very successful night for the New Zealand wrestlers on the PROGRESS wrestling card, after what happened in the main event. Singles Match 3. Zack Sabre Jr. defeated. Marty Scurll The techinical king Zack Sabre Jr never fails to put in an amazing performance. He has been awesome in Japan for many years and also a massive name on the British wrestling scene. Marty Scurll has been brilliant, a showman that can get any crowd going purely due to his charisma and talent. From Party Marty to the Villain, all we know is that when Scurll is in the ring, it is only business. Scurll and Sabre Jr put on a masterful display of genuine technical and talented wrestling and a match that would of been excellent on any card. Sabre Jr from Kent and Marty Scurll from Littleport, Cambridgeshire should make the whole of the UK wrestling fan base proud.
Death Match 4. Jimmy Havoc defeated. Mark Haskins This was no ordinary match. This was a death match. This match impressed. It is always a good match between Mark Haskins and Jimmy Havoc, two former tag team champions together in PROGRESS Wrestling. During Chapter 49 of the PROGRESS wrestling journey, Jimmy Havoc cost Mark Haskins his match. In true Mark Haskins style, he got his own back by then costing Jimmy Havoc his match and then they had to get on the same page fast for their tag team championship defense, but having lost to British Strong Style, they then imploded and exchanged regular blows. At PROGRESS Wrestling, Chapter 55: Chase the Sun, the Death Match began it was brutal from start to finish. Both men struggled to remain standing, but the brilliant Jimmy Havoc was victorious. An awesome match between Jimmy Havoc and Mark ‘The Star Attraction’ Haskins. PROGRESS Atlas Title Triple Threat 5. WALTER defeated. Matt Riddle (C) vs. Timothy Thatcher - Title Change The huge WALTER earned a victory in Alexandria Palace to become the new PROGRESS Atlas champion. He defeated Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher and held his new championship up high. WALTER has become a two time PROGRESS Atlas champion, after holding it for 34 days this year. PROGRESS World Title Number 1 Contender - Eight Way scramble match 6. Mark Andrews defeated. Chief Deputy Dunne vs. Eddie Dennis vs. Jack Sexsmith vs. James Drake vs. Morgan Webster vs. Strangler Davis vs. Zack Gibson A number one contendership involving eight people never fails to be exciting, and this was no different. The high flying Mark Andrews won this and becomes the number one contender to Travis Banks World Title.
PROGRESS World Title Match 7. Travis Banks defeated. Peter Dunne (C) An amazing and historic win for The Kiwi Buzzsaw as he beats one of the UK’s most feared and best wrestlers. This was not just a normal win, this was for the PROGRESS World Title. An awesome match as always with the British Brusierweight Pete Dunne and Travis Banks, a bolt of lightning. Dunne has been brilliant on the British Independent scene and during his current run in America on NXT. Watching this match was Mark Andrews, who won tonight’s number 1 contendership match, meaning Travis Banks will have to keep looking over his shoulder. Fan favourite Travis Banks, has never been a PROGRESS World Champion and will be proud to have climbed the mountain and become the champion. Despite having number one contender, Mark Andrews gunning for him, he will not want to let go of the championship anytime soon. Congratulations to the Kiwi Buzzsaw.
