Posh 2 MK Dons 0 Report
Peterborough United - 2
Milton Keynes Dons - 0
47' Ryan Tafazolli
52' Marcus Maddison
An awesome performance from Peterborough United, they keep rolling, during this brilliant start to the season for the boys in blue. Despite the minor aberration after a defeat to Bradford City on Saturday, but this victory over one of borough’s local rivals MK Dons puts them back on the right track.
The Posh, currently sit in second place after Tuesday night. They have a tough test against some what of a hoodoo team on Saturday, but that does not take away from their performance Tuesday night. It is fantastic to see that Tuesday night’s attendance was 6, 465, with 369 of them being MK Dons fans.
The goals came just after the break, Ryan Tafazolli scored the first 2 minutes into the second half. The second came and the three points were sealed when Marcus Maddison scored making it 2-0 to the Posh.
A well done to Jack Marriott who won the play of the month for August and Grant McCann who won, manager of the month, a few weeks ago. Jack Marriott has been on fire and is enjoying life in blue, Marriott scored 6 goals to kick off his first season in League 1, a very impressive effort. Not only has he been lethal in front of goal, it was great to see him dash 60 yards back to help out in defense just before half time, an excellent work rate.
Tonight saw the debut of local Bretton boy, Ricky Miller, a long awaited debut for the Posh. Ricky Miller put in a good performance to start his posh career. It is also encouraging to see how confident young talents Leonardo da Silva Lopes and Idris Kanu, they have both been brilliant when coming off the bench, getting better and better and more talented every time they play.
Manager Grant McCann was very happy with the result and was thankful for everyone in attendance. He sent out a tweet saying;
“What a tremendous support for a Tuesday Night game after a home game on Saturday, glad we could you home happy”.
Grant McCann was a leader for the Posh, when he used to marshall the troops from centre midfield, and today he is excelling at being the manager of the Posh, and getting better every single week. He changed the formation this Tuesday after the sending off of Anthony Grant, and went for a 4-4-2, as it worked.
Jack Baldwin also took to twitter to say, “Brilliant to bounce back after a disappointing weekend! Some big performances tonight! Clean sheet and superb fans yet again!”. A very positive reaction from Baldwin, and goal scorer and centre back partner Ryan Tafazolli said, “Brilliant response from the lads, great feeling beating a rival. Fans played a massive part tonight, class throughout. Nice to score too”.
Debutant Ricky Miller, also said after the game, ‘Great win shows the depth we have in this squad everyone put in a shift, great turnout by the fans for a Tuesday night”. The awesome shot stopper, who will be delighted with his clean sheet tonight. He also said on twitter, ‘Great win and reaction from everyone tonight. Another great atmosphere at London Road and another 3 points’.
The deadlock was broken 2 minutes after the second half, as Ryan Tafazolli heads home a corner from Marcus Maddison after relentless posh pressure, and this pressure, did not let up throughout the first half.
The second goal came from when Posh were piling on the pressure, being awarded two corners, a free kick and a good shot from Jack Marriott, just before Marcus Maddison made it 2-0. Maddison fired it into the bottom corner on his favoured left foot.
