West of Scotland Cup (Round 2) •Ardeer West Recreation (AYR) vs. Crookston Castle The excellent Crookston Castle travel to Ardeer West Recreation this weekend in the West of Scotland Cup. They're running riot in the league and have been prolific in front of goal. They have been scoring a lot and will hope that they can keep Ardeer West Recreation out, and try and earn a clean sheet. •Boswell vs. Cambria Last weekend, Boswell have been fantastic. They have been consistently winning and most importantly keeping clean sheets. They won 2-0 this weekend and will hope to continue this form into West of Scotland Cup action. They are positive going into this game, they should have a few key players back, but goal keeper Paul Quail is not available, there it is time for the "ever reliable manager/keeper Bobo to take his place back in between the sticks". Positivity and energy is the theme for Boswell, they have said that they're, "looking forward to the game going to be a tough challenge one that we relish Mon The Bozzy".
•Cambusnethan Talbot (CEN) vs. Colquhoun United Excellent chance for Colquhoun United his weekend as they travel to Cambusnethan Talbot and will be looking to come back victorious. They want to ignore league action and focus their attention 100% on the West of Scotland Cup, an exciting day for the club. •Crosshouse Waverley (AYR) vs. Erskine The clinical Erskine have been excellent in front of goal, they picked up a brilliant 7-2 victory in division 1. They are going to try and bring their prolific league form into their huge West of Scotland Cup fixture. Erskine play against Crosshouse Waverley away from home this Saturday. The excellent scoring form of the away club will be very important for the Greater Glasgow based club. •Dynamo East Kilbride vs. Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers (Cal) In a round 1 replay last weekend, Dynamo East Kilbride travelled to FC Drumchapel (GDSAFL) and they pulled off a brilliant win, 4-3, a brilliant and exciting 7 goal match. They now go into Round 2 and will be looking to take the bags of confidence earned by the outstanding victory last weekend. Dynamo East Kilbride will host Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, an exciting fixture for the home club. •Eaglesham (Cal) vs. Bellaire Bellaire drew 1-1 with Westcliff in division 3, but they are ready to go in the West of Scotland Cup second round and will home to progress through the rounds starting with their fixture against Eaglesham (Cal) •East Kilbride Y.M. vs. Uddingston Anvil (CSAFL) An in form East Kilbride Y.M. host Uddingston Anvil in the West of Scotland Cup. After their 11-0 win over North Kelvin Sports, they have taken bags of confidence with them, and this will continue into the second round of Saturday’s cup. Last weekend, the Greater Glasgow division 2 side, beat FC Baillieston 5-2 at home, making it 19 goals from the first 3 games of the division 2 season, an impressive record, one that will have Uddingston Anvil on their toes. •Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ vs. Red Star (GDSML) A great opportunity for Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ to prove themselves against Red Star who play in the GDSML. I spoke to Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ as they said they are “looking to continue off the back of a good win last week”. They’re expected to have another strong side out. Last weekend Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ picked up a 3-1 win over John Street in division 2 a very impressive and important victory for EPM B. Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ also spoke of the history between themselves and Red Star. Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ said, “Red Star came out winners when Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’ met them in the cup a few years ago so Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ looking to rectify that”. Eastwood Parkmount are looking to go into the September break with another win under their belts. Despite the history between Eastwood Parkmont and Red Star, it can all change when it comes to the West of Scotland Cup. An exciting match is set up.
•Gryffe Th (GCAFA) vs. Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’ Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’ have been excellent to start this season and they will be confident going to the match away at Gryffe Th of the GCAFA. Eastwood Parkmount, are due to have a strong side, and they have described Gryffe Th as “a bit of an unknown quantity for Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’”. Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’ will be excited to get underway in the West of Scotland Cup and they have had a weekend off and will feel refreshed and ready to go. They have had chance to rest and knocks or pains that they may have had and regain their fitness. The fitness element could end up being important to Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’, potentially giving them an edge. Eastwood Parkmount are looking for a win going into the September break. •Jordanhill vs. Greenock HSFP (CEN) The excitement of the big cup day has reached Jordanhill, a very ready bunch of lads, wanting to get the game against Greenock HSFP under way. We all know what league you play in, what position you're in the league, what results you've had, are all irrelevant when it comes to knockout cup action. Jordanhill will be ready for this one against a side that won the competition 2 years prior, but this doesn't mean a thing when the magic of the cup comes to town. I spoke to Iain Brown this week and he and his lads are positive going into this one. He said, "We welcome Greenock HSFP to Norwood this Saturday. No denying it, we are massive underdogs as we face a team who won the competition in 2015. We have a few regulars away which will make it tougher. Just want to make a good account of ourselves after a poor result last weekend. The opening 10-15 mins will be key".
•Helensburgh vs. UCS (GCAFA) Helensburgh picked up a brilliant 6-2 away victory this weekend in the Greater Glasgow League and they are facting UCS a club that play in the Glasgow College League. It does not matter what league you are in, what place you are in a cup tie, it is all about the 90 minutes on Saturday. In form Helensburgh, will be looking forward to being in West of Scotland Cup match. We managed to speak to Helensburgh this weekend, and they are confident going to this one, they say, ‘Helensburgh play host to UCS from the Glasgow College League in the 2nd Round of the West Cup. The GGP team still have Dickson and Marshall out through injury but the majority of the squad are available this week. Manager Sam Gemmell reports the boys are playing with a real confidence and the start in the league and league cup have really given them a boost. UCS are an unknown quantity for us but a quick check of the recent results in their own league shows that they have been doing well which will mean a tough tie to play in but hopefully will mean a decent game of cup football to watch for any spectators that come along’.
•Inverclyde (SAFL) vs. FC Baillieston FC Baillieston have struggled at the start of the division 2 season. When it comes to the cup, the league form goes out the window and it is about the 90 minutes on the Saturday. They travel to SAFL club Inverclyde. •John Street vs. Easthall Star (SAFL) A home tie for John Street as they host SAFL club Easthall Star. A massive fixture for the club hoping for a good cup run. John Street will want the magic of the West of Scotland Cup will touch them and they can get a result against Easthall Star. •Kelvinbride (SSML) vs. Westerlands G.G. Westerlands G.G. have had a complete change in form, but for the best. They have changed their form round 180 degrees, they struggled at the star of the season, but they have been excellent over the last couple of weeks. Last weekend, Westerlands G.G. had a fantastic 3-1 win over Colquhoun United, and they hope to continue their form. They travel to Kelvinbride who play in the SSML. Westerlands G.G. have been outstanding over the last couple weeks and they are ready to get underway in the cup. •Milngavie Wanderers (Cal) vs. Rannoch Rannoch travel away to Milngavie Wanderers, a side that play in the Cal. Rannoch are looking to bounce back after their defeat to Third Lanark, and bounce back to winning ways in West of Scotland Cup action. A huge weekend for the club. •Newshot vs. Blantyre RGM (CEN) Last weekend, Newshot were excellent as they picked up a 7-0 victory. Newshot were clinical and they want to take their form into the West of Scotland Cup, as they host Blantyre RGM in the CEN. Newshot will have to have last weekend’s man of the match Lewis Hammell firing on all cylinders. Newshot will be hoping that they have key players such as Chrissy Aitken, Ross Stevenson and Ross McLean, available. Should they have a strong side, they can continue a good run into the cup match.
•Newton Vale vs. Cambria (CAL) A big test, but one they are ready to get stuck into. Newton Vale have been excellent this season so far as last weekends 3-0 proves that. They have goals from all over the park and they have been solid at the back. Newton Vale lost a few quality players in the summer, some moving on and some moving abroad. This doesn't show at all in the performances they have put in. It is clear that they have talent all round the park and a strong squad of players. They will be excited for this one. We spoke to Newton Vale, and they have said that "This week we play the current holders of the West of Scotland cup Cambria (Cal) so I don't think it gets much tougher than that. This will be our biggest test yet but the boys are all looking forward to it and up for the challenge. We will be hoping to remain defensively solid and feel that we have enough creative players of our own to cause Cambria problems". A positive message from Newton Vale, which is great to see, they have a great chance to beat the reigning champions of the league.
•Rannoch Colts vs. Irvine Meadow (Ayr) Last weekend, Rannoch Colts had a break, time to reset and renew and time to get prepared ready to take on Irvine Meadow at home. The Colts will be fresh and ready to go, this could prove to be the difference maker, Rannoch Colts being fresher and ready to get going. •South Lochaber Thistle vs. UB United (SSML) South Lochaber Thistle will be ready to put Saturday to the side and focus on West of Scotland Cup action. It doesn't matter about last week results when it comes to the club. SLT will be back with a vengeance and they face UB United.
•St Thomas vs. Firhill United (SSML) Division 3 side St Thomas will be hosting Firhill United. St Thomas are ready to put the defeat to Boswell behind them and make strides forward. As the magic of the cup comes too St Thomas, they'll be ready to get going on Sunday.
•Strathclyde University (CAL) vs. Third Lanark Third Lanark have been brilliant in the league this season and super striker Alan Semple has scored 9 goals in his last 3 league games and will be looking forward to this one. Third Lanark had 6 different goal scorers in their 7-1 win in division 2 this weekend. They face Strathclyde University, play in the Caledonian AFL and they are currently in the Caledonian Premier League. The Caledonian league is considered as one of the strong around. As we know, when it comes to cup ties, leagues and league positions do not mean a thing, a sentiment that David from Third Lanark was keen to enthuse. He said, ‘We're excited to be drawn against a team like Strathclyde Uni who are in The Premier of one of the top Amateur Associations in Scotland’. David went on to say, ‘The joy of the cup is coming up against the best teams. No bother about league positions etc. Just a chance to go out and play against good teams and enjoy football like we do’. In terms of selection it is looking good for Third Lanark, David said, ‘We are looking strong again this weekend and there'll likely be a few disappointments when the squad is confirmed on Friday but it can only keep us strong’. A very positive message from the whole of Third Lanark who rightly take a lot of confidence into this game and the side are excited at the chance of taking on Strathclyde University.
•West Kilbride (Ayr) vs. Calderglen A tough result last weekend for Calderglen as they struggled against Erskine, but everyone knows that does not mean anything when it comes to West of Scotland Cup action. The Greater Glasgow division 1 club, face West Kilbride and will be up for this one and looking to do well in the league.
•Westcliff vs. Hamilton Acad Vaults (GDSML) Division 3 club, Westcliff are very excited about the chance to take on Hamilton Acad Vaults. They will be hoping the magic of the cup will touch them. They will be hosting the Hamilton Academical supporters, and have home ground advantage. They travelled to Bellaire and they drew 1-1 this weekend, a good result away from home and they will be ready for this weekends cup tie. We managed to speak to Westcliff this week and they have said, ‘Looking to bounce back after our draw Saturday hopefully a full squad to pick from’. Westcliff are the early kick off to accommodate for the away side who are a team of Hamilton Academical supporters hoping to make their game against Heart of Midlothian at 15:00. They are rightly confident going into this one with their main men available, they said, ‘needing Nugent and Burns firing and it won’t be a problem for the cliff’.
Division 1 •Westerlands ‘A’ vs. Eaglesham A good result away from home for Westerlands ‘A’, they drew in division 1 against an excellent Cambria side and will take this confidence into their home game this weekend. Eaglesham on the other hand, had a minor aberration on Saturday, and asides from that, have had a successful season. Eaglesham will be ready to go on Saturday. This is the only game in division 1 this weekend, and a good chance for both sides to get an advantage over the other clubs playing the West of Scotland Cup. Division 2 •North Kelvin Sports vs. Ashvale Victoria Despite their struggle this season, North Kelvin Sports, have had a job to try and get as many players on the park as they could, but have struggled in this department. They will be looking to change the momentum in this match and start brightly at home to Ashvale Victoria, who has had a similar start to the season. Ashvale Victoria picked up a good draw against Jordanhill a few weeks ago, and they scored 3 goals against a good Crookston Castle side. They will be looking forward to this game, it is on a level playing field and an interesting one in division 2. Division 3 •Carradale vs. Busby Two sides that have struggled this season in league action Carradale and Busby, will both be excited for Saturday’s big game. They both will look to pick up the important 3 points, to propel themselves up the league.
