Walsall 1 Posh 1 - Marred by controversy
Walsall - 1
Peterborough United - 1
A draw for the Posh this weekend, with many positive ways to look at it, with of course one massive negative. When Posh scored the winner, and it was disallowed because of an offside. It was clear that, he was not offside....
What happened at Walsall was wrong, a very wrong decision. There isn't a second opinion on this, and video footage shows, that Junior Morias scored the winning goal, and the officials got this one wrong. Sadly, now that the 90 minutes are up, nothing can change the fact that the Posh will only be awarded 1 point.
As one that normally is very much on the side of the officials who do a difficult job and get a bad press, but having watched this incident multiple times, it was not close and, it has cost Posh 2 points that they earned, in a very tight top of the table.
In recent years, the Posh have proved that Walsall is not an easy place to go and pick up any points, they have made their ground a fortrusse. In the Posh's last 4 trips prior to Saturday, they had not scored a goal, but McCann's men were up for it this time round.
The goal came from Gwion Edwards, a player that was stretchered off in this fixture last season, with a season ending injury. His goal was well taken and put the Posh level.
Walsall's goal was scored by a familiar face, after Erhun Oztumer, former Posh player scored just after the half time break. He kept the traditional phrase 'you always score against your old club' in fashion as he put Walsall 1-0 ahead. After Posh drew level it didn't change from that scoreline.
It has to be said, that although it is still a good result for the Posh, it should have been a win, it was a terrible decision to not award Posh's second goal. Pictures from after the match do show, that it should not have been offside, as even after the ball was played and on the way, Junior Morias was onside, by a considerable way. Once the linesman put his flag up for a moment and put it down, knowing he was wrong, they still said it was offisde and Peterborough United had to settle for just 1 point.
A good week overall for the Posh, they have picked up 4 valuable points from two tough games, and played excellent throughout. The boys in blue are still second in the table and going strong, and the buzz that we spoke out earlier on in the week is still about the place.
The buzz we currently feel is not one we have felt for a long time now, and it is something that is exciting. Grant McCann has been excellent all season as a leader, and deserves the continued support by the great Posh fans.
Posh went back to their normal starting line up, as Anthony Grant retured to the fray, after serving his one match suspension. Impressive centre back Ryan Tafazolli was back in the gym today and was ready to go again, he said on twitter,
"We deserved 3 points yesterday, however we won't let any misconstrued decisions distract us. Stay focussed.. on Sundays we work #PUFC".
Shot stopper Jonathan Bond, was thankful to the travelling fans, as he said, "Really frustrating game. Thought we had won it but it wasn't to be. THank you for the amazing and consistent away support".
Liam Shepherd also thanked the fans saying on twitter, "We are dissapointed not to come away with the win but it's still a point away from home. Thanks to the fans for making the trip".
Next up the Posh, is Wigan Athletic at the ABAX Stadium. Wigan are currently 5th place, and just a point behind the Posh, this will be a tough game, but a home one.
This week will be Posh week, in depth player profiles about Posh players throughout the week, two a day and we begin with Adil Nabi tomorrow morning at 9am, and Ryan Tafazolli at lunch time. Please check that out, and all feedback is welcomed.
