Mo Abdurahman - A True Champion

In this article, we look at the career so far of an awesome young fighter, Mo Abduraman. This is a report on the featherweight, and one of the friendliest people around, please get behind Mo and show him support. Follow @__SportCentral to see fight updates for Abdurahman.

The 21 year old, is a Muay Thai kickboxing champion, and is currently fighting all around the world, most recently, at Madison Square Garden. It is every fighters dream to fight at the iconic venue, and Abdurahman achieved that. At MSG, Mo Abdurahman fought the experienced dutch fighter, Kevin Vannostrand at Glory 43. The result did not go as planned, as the fight was ended as a TKO after 2 knockdowns in the second round. All of this does not matter, as Mo achieved a dream, and made a name for himself. The one thing that I know for sure, is that Abdurahman would have been in the gym the next day and preparing for his next fight. A phenomenal athlete, with unlimited physical and especially mental toughness. You will do well to find somebody that works as hard as Mo Abduraman works. For me, the most important thing to note about Mo Abdurahman, is not his fight record, not his knockouts and not his championships, but the fact that he is so nice and down to earth. Anybody that has the pleasure to meet Mo, will agree that he hasn’t said a bad word about anyone, and makes time for everyone. Further proof of this, is any fight footage you can find, will show Mo, shaking and raising the hand of any opponent that he has beaten. When he has picked up a victory, his first thought is never of himself and his own accomplishments until he has been over to check his opponent is okay. When Mo says that he lives in the gym, he doesn’t mean it in the sense a lot of people mean it, he actually does live in the gym. At the Exile Gym in Southampton, Mo has found his place to call home, and it is very hard to match the passion and the drive that Mo has. Muay Thai wasn’t always the career path that Mo was going to take, the passion for the sport came from when he went on work experience there. He was told that he must do his work experience working at the school assisting the dinner ladies, but Mo had other ideas, and asked the gym for a placement on his way home from school. This started the passion for the sport, that is still going today.

Something that shows the character that Mo is, would be the fact that his first adult fight was at aged 15. At this young age, Mo was up against a very good 19 year old fighter, and of course, Abdurahman won. When you look at Mo Abdurahman’s accomplishments you see that he is the best Muay Thai featherweight in the United Kingdom, and now being signed to GLORY, is what he rightly describes as, “is the premier league in the world for Kickboxing”. For Mo, it has not always been about Muay Thai, he has played football, rugby and cricket, and to a very high level, but when it came to choosing his path, Muay Thai took the biscuit.

During his cricket career, Mo Abdurahman was a very fast bowler, even from a young age. He played for Peterborough Town and grew up there, representing almost every team, climbing his way up the ranks at such a young age. He played a lot of county cricket throughout his youth career. After moving to Southampton, he joined Hampshire County Cricket Club, and instantly showed how talented he was. After becoming a professional with Hampshire, Abdurahman was getting better and better, earning the interest from the England under 19’s. When he was due to travel with the England u19’s, he was found to have a stress fracture in his hip, and then came the long wait on the sideline. While sitting out for 18 months, Mo continued to train and work towards becoming a Muay Thai fighter.

The South African born fighter, did also play rugby for Peterborough Rugby Club and was offered a contract with Northampton Town Football Club, rejecting it to focus on other sports. Mo Abdurahman has a massive future on the fight scene, and I would everyone to show him a massive amount of support, especially during his time on the GLORY scene. Let’s all help and get behind him. I will be tweeting regular fight updates for Abdurahman on twitter at @__SportCentral (two underscores). Please follow to track his career, that is going to be a great one.
