Posh 3 Wigan 2: Excellent Courage and Character from the Posh! Report

A great win for the Posh, and a great performance. The match included an exciting last 10 minutes, in which the Posh clenched the game! Junior Morias was in brilliant scoring form, especially after last weeks controversy, but he scored twice today, and Jack Marriott scored the winner. Today’s result further proves the strength, courage and character that the Posh has.

Grant McCann has been brilliant this season and has lead the troops in fantastic fashion. Peterborough United are number 2nd in the table have beaten League One favourites Wigan Athletic. This is result may serve justice for the controversy surrounding last weekends away day at Walsall. Before today, Wigan has conceded 3 goals in the league, and when they turned up at the ABAX Stadium, they would not have expected to double that today. Ricky Miller was ill today and therefore was not involved, and Junior Morias started up front with this season's superstar, Jack Marriott. They were brilliant all day long, with Junior Morias scoring just after half time, levelling the scores, after Jacobs put Wigan Athletic ahead in the first half. The game was then sitting level for a long period of time. Morias’ goal was thunderous, and he buried it into the bottom corner of the net.

With just 6 minutes remaining on the clock, Junior Morias doubled his tally in the game, making it 2-1 to the Posh, and it was a special one. Junior Morias fired home from 25 yards and into the bottom corner of the net. This was his second thunder bolt of the game, and made it 2-1 to the Posh, an outstanding effort from Junior Morias. Before Peterborough could open the champagne though, Wigan did strike back, a corner was swung in and a moment of confusion, meant that replacement Ryan Colclough hit the back of the net and made it 2-2, just three minutes after Morias’ second. The equaliser did not knock the Posh flat, they picked the ball out of the net and tried to find the winner. The excellent Peterborough United, did not lay down for a minute, they could have easily had the stuffing knocked out of them when the score went to 2-2, but they kept fighting, a really show of the courage and character that this Posh side has.

Just three minutes after, on the 90th minute, Jack Marriott, this season’s success story, capitalised on a moment of craziness, as the ball bounced around. Marriott fired home and hit the back of the net, and the ABAX erupted. Posh were winning 3-2 up. A massively exciting finish for the Posh, which isn’t anything new for the Posh, with the winning, losing and drawing throughout points of the game, but the important thing is the 3 points. The man of the match, was rightly awarded to Junior Morias, he was rampant for the Posh, a brilliant result for the boys in blue.

I managed to catch up with an excited Posh fan, who said, “The fact that we came from behind and managed to grab a last winner when it looked like we were heading for a draw, just shows the fighting spirit that the team has this season. This is just the sort of game that we would’ve lost last season and I think the fantastic atmosphere both amongst the fans and the players could be the thing that pushes up to promotion”. With the P word said, (Promotion), it is something that is being spoken about around Peterborough, something that is a major possibility for the Posh. They have been brilliant all season and should enjoy this. Grant McCann will be delighted and rightly so, he has been brilliant all season long, and that will not change, his passion is clear to see, and it radiates through to his players.

Excellent centre back and rock at the back Ryan Tafazolli tweeted, "Fans were outstanding today, sticking by us at one nil down, that belief infiltrated onto the pitch second half and then 💥💥💥 #pufc". The inspirational gaffer, Grant McCann said, “It was a great victory against a side that I think we all feel will be up there at the end of the season”. McCann went on to say, “I said to the lads in the dressing room, ‘well done for keeping it at 1-0’, it mant we were still in the game”. “We gave them a bit too much respect in the first half, but we were superb in the second half”. The delighted boss finished by saying, “I am delighted for Junior, he was robbed of a goal last week, but he was excellent today”.

A great performance from everyone, and as ever, the fans at the ABAX were brilliant and they carried the side home, as mentioned by the charismatic chairman Darragh MacAnthony on twitter. He will have enjoyed watching his side perform today and do as well as they did. A great result from the Posh, and they will move on to the next one, once they have enjoyed today. Congratulations to all involved.
