The past, present and future of ICW
An article, as a celebration for a brilliant company, ICW: Insane Championship Wrestling, and we will be looking at all of the best bits and it is just 52 days into ICW rolls into the SSE Hydro and they will be sure to blow the roof off the building. We will look at a brief history of the company, some of the best moments and the future of the company, in my opinion. Since 2006, ICW have been killing it, when it comes to British Wrestling. The Glasgow based wrestling promotion have just gone from strength to strength, producing great wrestlers, great shows and growing every single day.
ICW began in 2006, and 178 completed shows later, we have the phenomenal product that we see today, and one of the biggest, if not the biggest on the British Wrestling scene. The owner of the company, Mark Dallas, has been hard working and has given ICW his everything, making it into the product that we see today. It got to the point when Dallas would put the tickets on sale at The Garage, Glasgow, it would sell out, almost straight away. 2014 was a huge year for the brand, they took the decision to do shows outside of Glasgow and Edinburgh. When ICW, produced their first show outside of Scotland, in the O2 Academy, Islington, and it was sold out, and an exceptional event, Mark Dallas knew that this product was going to be massive, and it was not just a dream. The show's main event, was Jack Jester defending his ICW Heavyweight Championship against Jimmy Havoc, an amazing match. Branching out the product is not the only gamble they have made, the biggest gamble ICW have taken, might have been their biggest success. ICW took a risk on a wrestler, name Grado, who has become one of the most well known and recognisable facing in British Wrestling, and he is a fan favourite, no matter where he goes. He began his career with ICW in 2012, and I am sure, neither Grado or Mark Dallas, could have pictured or dreamt that, he would become the global star that we see today.
Being the ICW Heavyweight Champion, is a very prestigious accomplishment, and not easy to come by. The first Heavyweight Champion was Drew Galloway, who later became Drew McIntyre, when he moved to America to compete in the WWE, and to be named the chosen one by Vince McMahon. Mark Dallas had made Drew Galloway then chosen one before that and during his brief time outside of the WWE, Drew Galloway was increadible for ICW. When Drew Galloway was returning to ICW, the charismatic, intelligent Mark Dallas came up with a master plan! Dallas decided that he was going to bring out Galloway on his return, and not tell anyone, including his own wrestlers that were wrestling that night! The pop was unbelieably loud, even Grado, who had no idea that Drew was due to appear, said this week that it was his favourite moment in ICW history, a moment that Grado said, shocked him and made him scream with excitement.
ICW has become a British Wrestling monster and it is on a road going very quickly and will not be stopped. Personally, I both predict and I dream that one day, ICW becomes a weekly television show, this would be amazing and would get a lot of support. To run a show on a weekly basis would make this a massive UK based product and would get a lot of attraction, one of my dreams! I hope you like the article, please provide any feedback, and use the #ICW to join in the conversation.
