Cambuslang Football Academy played East Lothian Thistle at home, and they enjoyed a 6 all contest, a 12 goal thriller, with the two sides not being separated, in normal or extra time. The penalty shoot out rolled round, and the Cambuslang Football Academy held their nerve, and sent themselves through to the next round, a great performance, and they will be ready to begin in the league also. I managed to catch up with the Cambuslang Football Academy and they have said, “Great game for the neutral, nerve racking for those involved”. And continued to say, “We started really poorly but credit to my boys on coming back and showing great character to get the win today. We look forward to the draw on Tuesday and now we go ahead to prepare for our game against Gorbals United next Sunday in the league”.

Castlemilk Dynamo 5-1 Minto Lounge Having gone 1-0 down and then bringing the scorline back too 1-1 at the break, Castlemilk Dynamo managed to end the game 5-1. A good result for Castlemilk Dynamo as they move onto the next round, full of confidence and with a convincing cup victory under their belt. I spoke to Castlemilk Dynamo star Alan Semple, who said, “We went 1-0 down Sunday early on, came back and equalised soon after. We scored early in the second half, and there was no contest from that point. A good win against a good side though. Hoping for an away day in the next round”.

Colquhoun United 0-3 Cranhill United An all Sunday Central League clash this weekend, as Colquhoun United played hosts to Cranhill United, but there was only one United walking through to the next round. Both teams performed well, with Cranhill United taking the win game home with them. They do progress onto the next round of the RJM Sports Sunday Trophy. Penalty drama then lead to a victory for HSV against Duddingston Athletic, a brilliant performance, and a good win for HSV. Dunfermline United 3-2 Glasgow Star A very close game between Dunfermline United and Glasgow Star, was brilliant, both teams going at it, and just a goal to separate them. Unfortunately for Glasgow Star, it was for Dunfermline United, but an outstanding performance none the less, and they will take confidence into the next round of the cup. Eastend Star 6-3 Shirlaws A tight tussle between Eastend Star and Shirlaws ended in an excellent and convincing victory for Eastend Star. The Sunday Central League side, were outstanding in the end, and will be pleased to have put 6 goals past their opponents. Glasgow Irish p4-4 Lanarkshire Forrest A close game between Lanarkshire Forrest and Glasgow Irish, ended in a penalty shoot out, and victory for the Sunday Central League side. It appears that the Sunday Central League are excellent at penalties, and Glasgow Irish were no different. A high scoring game, with 8 goals being scored, in normal as well as, extra time. When it went to penalties, Glasgow Irish showed their toughness and grit to get over the finish line and win the penalty shoot out. Haghill 4-0 Bo'Ness Athletic Sunday Central League side, Haghill have booked their place in the next round of the RJM Sports Sunday Trophy, in excellent form. They beat Bo’Ness Athletic by four goals to nil, and they will now continue their excellent goal scoring record into the next round of the cup as well as league action. Rosehill Athletic 1-6 Eastwood Mearns An excellent win for Eastwood Mearns, as they beat Rosehill Athletic away from home, and they were in fine goal scoring form as they scored 6. A great performance on the road, and Eastwood Mearns will now take all of their form in the league action in the Sunday Central League. I managed to speak to Eastwood Mearns this week, and they said, It's been a busy week for the club. I'm absolutely delighted we've secured a place in Championship Division 1 which is a great achievement for us but that's at the back of the mind and all focus is on Sunday's Scottish Cup tie. I need to be honest I don't know much about our opponents but for me regardless of form etc it all goes out the window when it's the Scottish. For me no matter what level you are at the Scottish always has that special buzz about it and if you can't motivate yourself for it then you are in the wrong game. The lads have worked extremely hard in training this week and there's a great feel amongst them which is always good to see. We've got a few missing through work and injury but I'm lucky I've got a good sized squad to choose from so ultimately it'll be down to whoever I choose to do what they can to get our name in the hat for the next round”.

Rumours p0-0 Palmerston Colts The rumours are true, they have won on penalties! Another victory in a penalty shoot out for a Sunday Central League team, as Rumours held their nerve to win their match. Neither team could break the deadlock, for 90 minutes as well as in extra time. Palmerston Colts chucked everything they could at Rumours, but a very good defense held strong, and they did the damage in the penalty shoot out. South Edinburgh 2-8 Carluke Thistle - Won A huge game in the RJM Sports Sunday Cup, and it ended in the Sunday Central League side, Carluke Thistle picking up an emphatic win over South Edinburgh, on the road. The goals came from an exceptional Mark Telfer who scored 4, as well as goals from Gary Nicholson, Gary Smith, Darren Smith and Giz Yuill. An outstanding performance from David Main earned a man of the match award. I managed to speak to Scott, the assistant manager of Carluke Thistle, and he enthused, “A great result from the lads that now takes us into the 3rd round. Totally dominated our opposition and we should have scored more. A couple of errors lead to the goals which is something we need to improve on moving forward, but a successful trip to the capital against a hard working side.” Scott went on to say, “Good to see striker Mark Telfer getting back to his best after his tally to 8 for the season now, also Gary Nicholson and captain Darren Smith breaking their goal suct for the campaign. Also well done to Giz Yuill scoring on his long awaited competitive debut after coming off the bench and also David Main getting his first Man of the Match award. Really good to see the full squad putting on a strong showing and just shows what we can do when we have the numbers. Thanks to South Edinburgh for the post match hospitality. We wish you all the best for the rest of the season”.

Sporting Pumas 7-0 Coltness United - Won An outstanding victory for the Sporting Pumas, they did the damage at home against Coltness United in the RJM Sports Sunday Trophy. The Sporting Pumas have been in fine goal scoring form last season as well as during the group stages of this season. They will be ready for the next round, and ready to go in the Sunday Central League. Station Bar 7-5 Rutherglen Burgh What a game it was in the RJM Sports Sunday Trophy, and Rutherglen Burgh put 5 goals past the home side, but they did not win this one, as Station Bar took the spoils in this 12 goal thriller. An excellent high scoring game, that appeared to look as if it would go either way at any point. Finding themselves in brilliant goal scoring form, Rutherglen Burgh will be ready to go in the Sunday Central League, and will look to carry on in free scoring form.

Steadings p1-1 Eastend Tower A game lost on penalties is always a tough one, as Eastend Tower, fell short against Steadings. The 90 minutes ended 1-1, the scores tied, and the two could not even be separated after extra time on top. Then it went to penalties, and the Sunday Central League side fell at the final hurdle, but were part of an epic contest. They will be happy with their performance and excited to get started in the league.

Weir Recreation 2-8 Drumchapel United At wonderful facilities this weekend, Weir Recreation hosted fellow Sunday Central League outfit, Drumchapel United, and the two teams took part in a brilliant, great spirited contest between two good sides. Drumchapel United scored well and will take form through to the league on Sunday, and Weir Recreation have a lot of positives to take through to the start of the Sunday Central League season with them. Having put on a great show after the game, Drumchapel United, were very complimentary of the facilities, as well as the service provided in the after game meal, something that is brilliant see. Both teams showed each other a lot of respect in a great footballing contest, and they move onto league action. I managed to speak to Weir Recreation, and they said about the game, “Beaten by the better team on the day. Dominated the game for the first half an hour and missed a lot of chances. After that Drumchapel were the better team. By far the best team we have played”. “Focus on the league, league cup and the west now, still a lot to play for. All the best to Drumchapel for the season, with that team they will definitely do well”. I managed to speak to Drumchapel United, and they have said, “Started off the first 20 mins as if we were sleeping and had our gk to thank for pulling off several good saves and keeping Weirs at bay. Best thing that happened to us was Weirs took the lead and it seemed to waken us up and we where a totally different team from then and dominated most of the game. Equalised shortly after Weirs had scored and went in at half time 4-1 up. Came out the 2nd half and dominated possession and missed several good chances to extend our lead. Weirs caught us with a sucker punch and pulled one back to make it 4-2. Goal lifted Weirs and they had a good 5 minute spell but we got the 5th goal and from then on in we controlled the rest of the game scoring 3 more and running out 8-2 winners”. Weir Recreation is an excellent ground to play football at, and they put on a great post game show, as mentioned by Drumchapel United, as they said, “All the best to Weirs for the season and thanks for the pies and hot dogs after the game”.
