Excellent Maverick Mayhew, the next big thing! Exclusive Q&A
It was an honour for me to be able to speak to Maverick Mayhew this week, he is a brilliant young talent and one that is going to be unbelievable for years to come, on the British Independent scene, as well as worldwide. Maverick Mayhew is a very down to earth and genuine person outside of the ring, and the excellent answers to the questions are further evidence of this. It is safe to say that Maverick Mayhew has been turning heads, and has gained the respect of not just every that has had the pleasure to watch him wrestle, but one of the UK’s greatest talents, Will Ospreay. Will Ospreay, a man that needs no introduction, took to twitter to compliment Maverick Mayhew, tweeting, “Honestly by the time Maverick Mayhew is 21 he is gonna be like the best high flyer in England”. A huge honour for Maverick Mayhew to receive such wonderful comments from a wrestler, that probably England’s current best high flyer. Will Ospreay is phenomenal, and a match between the two would be exceptional, and one that I would love to see if not now, in the very near future. Please continue to all show your support, to one of the fast rising wrestlers, not just in England, but in the world, and help and support him along this journey, and Mayhew will not disappoint. Keep your eyes peeled for more from this outstanding performer, and be ready to see jaw dropping, high flying moves.
Another huge honour to add to a very long list of accomplishments, as he has recently been signed to DTBA, a pro wrestling endorsement from Manchester, and has been signed alongside his best friend's, Harrison Bourne and Joe Lando! An outstanding achievement, and a great signing for DTBA, future stars of the business. A truly interesting Q&A, please have a read of this young talented athlete. Question 1 - Who was your biggest inspiration to become a wrestler? For me it would have to be Rey Mysterio. He was always someone that I looked up to as a kid when I was watching wrestling. His style, is ability and the way that he could interact and captivate an audience are all inspirations for me and something that I can only hope to recreate in my work. Question 2 - Who is the best wrestler that you have worked with? Now this one is difficult. I love wrestling against Spike Trivet because he's a good friend of mine and it is a fun and sound match. However, I also like working with Harrison Ashberry and Joe Lando because we are three kids that are growing up and wanting to be wrestlers. we share a similar style and look up to similar wrestlers and getting to try new moves against them is always fun. Sooner rather than later they are going to be making waves across the Independent Wrestling scene, mark my words. I've worked with so many talented people in matches and in training from my mates to international mega stars that this list could probably go on forever but I'll stop here before the person reading this gets to bored. Sorry to the people I've inevitably missed out. Question 3 - 17 years old and one of the UK's fast rising talents, what's the dream? For myself every goal that I achieve is a dream come true. All I've wanted do my whole life is become a professional wrestler and slowly I'm ticking everything off my bucket list as I go along from wrestlers I want to work with to titles to competing in tournaments to wrestling at different companies the items of my bucket list are getting ticked off and it seems as if every time I tick something off a new thing gets added. I want to do everything in wrestling that I can, for me there's no order in which I do it as long as I can get it done.
Question 4 - What would be a normal day/week in the day of Maverick Mayhew? Well, I'm currently still in sixth form sitting my A-Levels so as you can imagine that takes up the vast majority of my time from Monday-Friday but when I'm not trapped there most of my time is dedicated to wrestling. Talking about wrestling, watching wrestling, studying wrestling, wrestling in general. Honestly, if you asked my family and friends they'd say that wrestling is all I know and to be honest they are probably right. When it comes to the weekends nowadays I'll be wrestling on shows or looking at other shows that I can go and watch. I like to keep busy, there was once a time that I would be more than happy to lounge around the house all day but now it just bugs me. Question 5 - What's been the hardest part of your career so far? I think the hardest part of anyone's career in wrestling is starting. From finding schools to getting on shows and expanding your brand the starting process of becoming a wrestler is harder than a lot of people would imagine. Luckily for me I have had a lot of trust and faith put into me from wrestling promotions and wrestlers on a higher platform than me which has allowed me to spread my wings and become who I am today. Question 6 - What is your proudest moment so far. I try and take pride in everything that I do because it makes me feel better about myself so even if something didn't go as well as I wanted it to or someone disapproves of something as long as I can see the positive in it I'll still be motivated to make whatever it is or myself better, although I am still my biggest critique as I'm sure a lot of people will agree with. Some of my proudest moments may seem like nothing to a lot of people however some other them include: wrestling my first match, winning a match for the first time, getting paid to wrestle for the first time, winning a belt for the first time, wrestling for a new promotion for the first time, wrestling at a new really good venue, getting praised on social media by people that I look up to, wrestling a good match, wrestling someone I've wanted to wrestle for a long time, getting positive feedback, and one specific moment that stands out for me when people ask me about things that I'm proud of is wrestling along side Connor Mills against the London Riots and after the match getting a 'THAT WAS AWESOME' chant and getting a standing ovation because at that point it felt to me like people appreciated the hard work that I had been putting into this business and it honestly meant the world to me. I try to find the positives in everything I do and especially in wrestling because for me, as I'm sure it is for a lot of people, is not a hobby or a pass time it is a life style and something that I dedicate a lot of time to. When I've had bad or down moments in my life wrestling has always been there to help me get through it and to the people that have made that possible and stood with me on my journey so far I couldn't be more thankful.
