West of Scotland & Sunday Central build up this weekend action!
This weekend we have a mix of games in the Sunday Central League, as well as the West of Scotland Cup action. The clubs competing in cup action this weekend are excited to get started in a brilliant competition. The sides competing in league action are looking to build a good start in their division, and to try and take advantage of most clubs playing in the West of Scotland Cup. West of Scotland Cup - Round 1 •Bardykes Rovers vs. Drumchapel United Last weekend Bardykes Rovers, took part in a thrilling 11 goal fixture, and they scored seven of the goals and came out on top. They currently play in the Championship 2 of the Sunday Central League. This weekend they find themselves on the road to Drumchapel United, another Sunday Central League cup that enjoyed a brilliant start to the season. They competed in the top flight, and they came out on top picking up three points at home. Drumchapel United will take a lot of confidence into this game. With the two clubs competing this weekend, scoring 12 goals between them last weekend, they will both be set for what is going to be an exciting encounter. This week, I spoke to Drumchapel United, and they have said, "A bit of unknown opposition but expecting a tough game as always. Looking forward to our first game in the West Cup and feel it is a great addition to Sunday football". •Brunswick vs. Kilmarnock Supporters Sunday Central League club Brunswick are the hosts in the West of Scotland Cup first round. They are welcoming Kilmarnock Supporters, and they will hope to taking their confidence into this game, after their excellent victory last Sunday. Brunswick put in an exceptional performance in the league last weekend and this weekend they will be in cup action, and they will be ready to go. •Cambuslang Football Academy vs. PFD An all Sunday Central League match in the West of Scotland cup this weekend, as Cambuslang Football Academy plays hosts to PFD. Cambuslang Football Academy played well last weekend, as they drew 3-3 in a thriller away from home. PFD were brilliant last weekend as they won 3-1 at home in the Sunday Central Premier League 1. Both clubs will be confident going into their match this weekend, they playing the same division, but it all depends on the 90 minutes on Sunday! •Castlemilk United vs. Kilbirnie United This Sunday, Castlemilk United will be representing the Sunday Central League as they host Kilbirnie United. Castlemilk United are excited to compete in the cup, looking to get a result in the cup and take that confidence into the Sunday Central Premier League 2. Castlemilk United are a very good side and they will feel confident at home this weekend, against Kilbirnie United. •Colquhoun United vs. Station Bar Colquhoun United are hosting Station Bar this weekend in the West of Scotland Cup. Last weekend, Colquhoun United were involved in a brilliant and close encounter in the Sunday Central League. They narrowly lost away from home and this weekend will hope for a change in fortune, and the edge as they have home ground advantage going into this fixture. •Eastend Star vs. Wellhouse Excellent start for East End Star last weekend, as they picked up a 3-0 win at home in the Premier League 3. They are now travelling to Wellhouse this weekend and they are looking to pick up a win and progress through to the next round. Eastend Star will be just as happy with the keeping a clean sheet last weekend, as they will have been with the three goals that they scored, but three points are the most important thing. Wellhouse also play in the Sunday Central League as they will be on the road to Eastend Star. They will be looking to cause an upset, as when it comes to a cup game, league positions do not mean a thing, it is all about the 90 minutes are on game day. This week I spoke to Eastend Star managed Sean Smith. He is positive going into this one, and he said, "The lads are buzzing , and have good a feeling going into the game after a good result in our first league game". I also managed to speak to Eastend Star played, Jordan Tidser, who said, "It's a good feeling knowing we all played great in our first league game looking strong and confidant all over the park and now play wellhouse this weekend in the west witch me and the lads are buzzing and look to take the win home with the east end". •Eastend Tower vs. Townhead United Last weekend Eastend Tower have had a weekend off last weekend, and they will feel rersted and ready to go again. They are at home this weekend to Townhead United in the West of Scotland Cup, and the Sunday Central Premier League 1 side are going to be feeling confident going into this one. •Eastwood Mearns vs. Wishaw Athletic Eastwood Mearns are at home to Wishaw Athletic this weekend, and they will be playing this one with confidence running high. They picked up an impressive 5-2 victory to start the season, and Eastwood Mearns player Rowan Dickson won the SportCentral Championship player of the week award, a very talented player, going to be essential for Eastwood Mearns. The club will be confident going into this match and will hope to progress through to the next round of the cup. •Elms AFC vs. Bengal Lancers On the road in this one, is the Sunday Central League club Bengal Lancers, that play in the Championship 2. They were involved in a thrilling contest last weekend, and will take a lot of confidence through to their cup tie, despite the result. •Glasgow Star vs. Wishaw Wycombe Last weekend, Glasgow Star played in a thrilling game last Sunday, a game ending in a draw, 3-3 scoring three brilliant goals. They will hope to go that bit extra in their cup game against Wishaw Wycombe and come out on top. They will be ready for the cup game, and will put everything on the line and hope to enjoy a good cup run. •HSV vs. Coatbridge Colts A great win for HSV last weekend as he picked up 4-2 win at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, and this weekend they welcome Coatbridge Colts to their venue. HSV are a good side and compete in the top Sunday Central Championship division. •Killie Athletic vs. Carluke Victoria An away day this weekend, for Carluke Victoria, they start their Scottish Cup campaign away from home to Killie Athletic. Carluke Victoria played in an exciting game last weekend and they will want to go one better this weekend a pick up a victory on the road. Carluke Victoria would love to win this one and put together a lengthy cup run. •Lanark United vs. Overlee Partizans This weekend, it is an away day for the fantastic Overlee Partizans. They are on the road to Lanark United, and they have been in exceptional form, and they will be hungry for me wins and more goals. Overlee Partizans will be looking for a good run in the cup, they have been clinical infront of goal and just go from strength to strength. When Overlee Partizans are playing, it is always exciting and this match will be a belter. •Newmains United vs. Haghill An all Sunday Central League contest this weekend in the West of Scotland Cup. Haghill picked up an exceptional victory last weekend, and they will be up for this contest against Newmains United. Newmains United are coming off a brilliant performance, as they were involved in a thrilling contest in which they drew 3-3. This will be a brilliant contest between two very good clubs. When it comes to the West of Scotland Cup, league positions do not matter, and it is level playing field, you have to be the best side on the day, and during the 90 minutes. That is the magic of a cup tie. Newmains United manager Paul McMahon said, "We're not expecting much from our first outing in the west of Scotland cup... we're just glad to be involved" I spoke to Haghill's Paul Hughes this week, and he said, "This weekend we compete in our first ever west of scotland tie.the West has always been a Saturday tournament but league bosses have extended it into the sunday leagues so would be good to do something in the first year of the cup. Haghill go into it on the back of an unbeaten run but take nothing for granted. Newmains although in the lower division should be difficult opponents and the cup is a one off they will be looking for a big scalp so we'll need to be on our guard different surface to what were used too but we wont look for excuses hopefully a strong squad available although both mcarthurs miss out as on holiday, which should offer up positions for other players to be involved in that have been on the edges of the team. Looking forward again to another good day of amateur football". •Northend vs. Eastfield Star The brilliant Northend will be up for this contest against fellow Sunday Central Premier 1 outfit Eastfield Star. Eastfield Star had no game last weekend, so they will feel rested, hungry and ready to go in the West of Scotland Cup. Northend are a brilliant side that played in an epic encounter with Haghill last weekend, and despite the result they will take a lot of confidence from it. Northend are outstanding at the back, as last season they only conceded 18 goals from 18 games, as they came runners up in the top division of the Sunday Central League. They will be serious contenders in this competition, but first they must play Eastfield Star. In the cup, league positions go out the window, and it all depends on the 90 minutes on the day. •Red Staars Baagrade vs. Rutherglen Burgh Last weekend, Rutherglen Burgh picked up an impressive win away from home, as they put 9 goals past, Broadwood Clyde. This weekend, they find themselves on the road again, as they travel to play Red Staars Baagrade. Red Staars Baagrade, are a Premier League outfit, and they will be up for the contest this weekend. They will have confidence with playing at home, but they are exceptional Rutherglen Burgh side, that will be confident going into this one. •Rosehill Thistle vs. Glenmill Thistle A battle of the Thistle’s, but will have the sharpest point! In form Rosehill Thistle, will look to continue their rich vein of form as they picked up an 8-0 victory away from home, their second win of the season. They will be happy with keeping a clean sheet in the league, just as happy as they will be with the eight goals and the three points. Glenmill Thistle were involved in a brilliant game last weekend drawing 3-3 in the Championship Division 2 of the brilliant Sunday Central League. This weekend the two sides are going to be putting on a thrilling contest, one that you can’t call at this point. •Saltcoats vs. Airdrie Albion Sunday Central League club Airdrie Albion are on the road this weekend as they travel to Saltcoats in the West of Scotland Cup. They will be coming off a brilliant victory last weekend, winning 4-1 in the Championship division 3 and will take a lot of confidence on their journey this weekend. •Scot Int Youth vs. Budhill United Budhill United are on the road to Scot Int Youth this weekend, a team that are very unknown, but Budhill United will do what they do best and play well to try and come out on top and proceed to the next round. They will be ready to put together a good cup run. •Newmains vs. Sauchie Sauchie will be up for an away day this weekend as they challenge Newmains. They will hope for another good performance and stringing together a cup run and a run of victories. The magic of the cup will be present in this one. A great match is in store us. I spoke to Sauchie this week, and they said, "We are traveling to wishaw to face newmains afc in the West If Scotland cup . Looking to bounce back after last weeks poor performance in the 1st league game". •Stables vs. Glasgow Irish Sunday Central club Glasgow Irish have been brilliant away from home this weekend, and they will ready to get stuck into cup football. They are travelling to a club named Stables on Sunday, and they will think of nothing else except the 90 minutes that they will be playing on Sunday, as that is the magic of the cup. When it comes to cup competitions, leagues and league positions do not make a difference at all. •Vale Rangers vs. Castlemilk Dynamo Next up for Premier League side, Castlemilk Dynamo, is an away day in the West of Scotland Cup against Vale Rangers. Castlemilk Dynamo had a brilliant weekend last weekend, winning 6-0 to kick off their Premier League campaign. Castlemilk Dynamo will be high on confidence going into this one, they will hope to continue in their fine form that they have had to begin the season. Vale Rangers began their league campaign last weekend also they were in a thrilling encounter against EK Athletic away from home, they will take confidence into this game despite last weekend’s final result. When the magic of the cup comes round, it is all about the 90 minutes of action, league positions and history goes out the window, it is all about your performance on the day. I spoke to Vale Rangers this week, and they have said, "massive challenge for us this week up against one of the leagues best sides in the West Cup. Hopefully have a full squad available for selection and it will give us a real test of how far away we are from the top". This week I managed to speak to Alan Semple of Castlemilk Dynamo, who said, "Were playing in the west of scotland cup against Vale Rangers. Its a team we dont know much about but we are looking to progress to the latter stages so we will have the the strongest team available on the pitch and show up with the correct attitude. As long as we get to the next round, thats all that matters in cup football". Mulheron Scaffolding Services Premier 1 •Crownpoint United vs. Polonia Glasgow This weekend's only division 1 clash takes place when Crownpoint United host Polonia Glasgow and they are both after a win. Both clubs want to get their first wins on the board and then look to push on in this season Sunday Central Premier 1. Mulheron Scaffolding Services Premier 2 •Albion vs. Rutherglen Rovers Last weekend, Albion picked up a brilliant victory as they won 9-2 away from home, and they will be delighted to have scored 9 times. Rutherglen Rovers were involved in a brilliant match against Sporting Pumas, a team that were unbeaten last season, and continued that last weekend. Rutherglen Rovers, took them right to the end though, they were excellent despite result. A cracking game is in the pipeline in this one, both sides will be ready to go in the early stages of the Sunday Central League. I spoke to Rutherglen Rovers this weekend, and they said, "Disappointing start to the premier 2 campaign for us. Our performance last week v Sporting Pumas was better but we failed to take anything from the game. We're looking to improve every week and aiming to take all 3 points this Sunday, the boys are confident". •Haldane United vs. Carluke Thistle Last weekend, Carluke Thistle picked up an excellent win away from home and they will be looking for a repeat performance this weekend. They travel to Haldane United this weekend and they will be in a tough game. Haldane United are also a good side, and they will be ready to try and kick start their season with all three points. This is a game that could go either way, an exciting contest in the second tier. I spoke to Haldane United this weekend, and they said, "Looking to get back to winning ways this Sunday after last weeks defeat. Done more than enough to win the game but we need to take our chances. Slow start to the group stages but with players back we will be looking to compete in this league". I managed to speak to the assistant manager of Carluke Thistle, Scott and he said, "Playing this Sunday away to Haldane Utd. We know that Haldane are very good side having got to the final of the Harley’s Cup last season, only to be beaten by a fantastic Overlee Partizans Side. They got beaten last week by Brunswick & will be looking to bounce back against us. Last weeks game against Castlemilk really boosted our confidence & we go into the game with a full squad. We’re still missing some important players but we have other top players that can cover & everyone is fighting for their place. Hopefully we can make it two wins out of two & keep up the good work". Mulheron Scaffolding Services Premier 3 •Gorbals United vs. Calderside Both sides in this game were in awesome encounters last weekend. Gorbals United drew 3-3 in their game, a really entertaining game that could have gone either way. Gorbals United will be happy that they have got a point, but they will be hoping for all three this weekend. Calderside picked up a win away from home to start their league campaign, three points they will be very happy with. Between the two clubs they scored 7 goals last weekend, this game has all the makings of a cracking encounter. Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 1 •Provanmill Thistle vs. EK Athletic Championship action this weekend for Provanmill Thistle and EK Athletic as the two clubs are going to be searching for three points. East Kilbride Athletic have been brilliant to start this season having won two out of two in the league. They had a brilliant match against Vale Rangers and this weekend they are on the road too Provanmill Thistle. The home club Provanmill Thistle have won one of their opening two games this season, and will look to bounce back from last weekend, a game they performed brilliantly in. Provanmill Thistle have also been in fine form and will look to carry it on against top of the table EK Athletic. I spoke to East Kilbride Athletic this week, and they said, “Really looking forward to what will be another tough test for us. We welcome back at least four first team players after missing out last week and we're back to a near full squad to pick from.” •Weir Recreation vs. Rumours AFC This weekend, two clubs that competed in exciting a brilliant contests last weekend go head to head. Weir Recreation are at home this Sunday, a brilliant venue for football, and they will be ready to get the game underway. Last weekend Weir Recreation won 3-1 away from home and they will now look to win at home and make their excellent home ground a fortress. Rumours AFC have always been in good form, they did however draw last weekend in a brilliant 3-3 draw. Rumours are on the road once again, but will be playing at a fantastic venue, and they will want to get three points and continue their fine goal scoring form. I managed to speak to, Weir Recreation manager Scott MacGregor, who said, "Buzzing for this Match actually, we always like to test ourselves against good teams and we know a bit about Rumours. One of our boys comes from Barrhead and they come with a very good reputation. Got all the foundations for an excellent game. Squads carrying a few injuries at the minute but that’s just football. Hopefully it stays dry on Saturday night so we have a good playing surface". •Eastend Rovers vs. New Stevenston United This Sunday, features a fixture between Eastend Rovers and New Stevenson United, as the two clubs are on the search for their first wins in the league this season. New Stevenson United are travelling to Eastend Rovers. Both sides can take positives from their opening fixtures in the league, but this will be a big game as they want to get their first points of the season registered. Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 2 •Blantyre Albion vs. Kilsyth Rovers Kilsyth Rovers are on the road to this weekend to Blantyre Albion. Kilsyth Rovers have had a good start in the league as they beat Wellhouse. The home side, Blantyre Albion also picked up their first win, as the two clubs start with their best foot forward. This weekend the two clubs will look to double their points tally and get off to a good start by winning their first two games. Only one side can win, and it will be a brilliant game between these two very evenly matched teams. I spoke to Colin Hughes, manager of Kilsyth Rovers, and he said, "we have Blantyre Albion this weekend, they drew 0-0 with SL Ravens at the weekend there, will be another tough game for us, but we go in confident after our win last weekend". Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 3 •Eastwood Mearns B vs. East Lane Last weekend, East Lane were relentless in their 12-2 victory and they have made a massive statement due to the result of that match. East Lane picked up their eye catching result, and therefore everyone will now be fully aware of their capabilities and what they can do, if a side lets their gaurd down. Eastwood Mearns B are the hosts and they are going to be looking for their first win of the league campaign. With most teams playing in cup action this weekend, they will see an opportunity to pick up a win and be in a positive position when the league kicks into full swing. East Lane will be high on confidence and ready to play on the road. They will be happy with last weekend, and take a lot of confidence from it. I spoke to John Hutchinson of East Lane, and he said, "With most teams playing in the first round of the West of Scotland Cup, which we have automatically been given a bye to round 2, our focus is firmly on our second league game. We're conscious of how quickly our qualification group stage went from good to bad and the management team are keen to maintain our strong attacking presence but develop our defence. We're not taking anything for granted this weekend, Eastwood Mearns B will clearly have players who will want to break into their 'A team' that being said, we're confident after our last two games have accumulated lots of goals and we will do our best to let the league know who we are as this our first year under the Sunday Central AFL". •Nethercraigs vs. Queenslie This weekend, the hosts Nethercraigs are looking to travel to top of the table and take the glory. Queenslie currently sit on top, they have won both of their opening games in the Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 3. They will want to make it three in a row and three more points this weekend, but it is not easy away at Nethercraigs. Nethercraigs will be looking to take all three this weekend, they also have homeground advantage. I spoke to Queenslie this week, and they have said, "Looking forward to it, looking for our 4th win on the bounce since new manager David Smith took over. Expecting a tough game as no Game is easy at this level. We’ve got a full squad without top players all available with our new signing Kyle Cameron starting his first game since officially becoming a Queenslie player" I managed to speak to Queenslie player, Kyle Cameron who said, "It was excellent making my first appearance for Queenslie. It was an enjoyable game to take part in and even more so with a win. I thought everyone played their part well in the victory and we've earned maximum points so far, so overall it's been the perfect start".
