Scottish Cup (Round 2) Carluke Hearts 11-1 Rannoch Colts A tough day for the Greater Glasgow based club Rannoch Colts, as they were beaten the league by Carluke Hearts. Carluke Hearts will be delighted with the results and the way that they won this one, in clinical fashion, being relentless in front of goal. They will be very pleased with their performance and the fact they are in the next round, but for Rannoch Colts, they will want to forget about cup action, and put all of their focus on the league. West of Scotland Cup (Round 3) Symington Caledonian 1-2 Cambria An amazing win for Cambria this weekend in the West of Scotland Cup third round. They beat Symington Caledonian 2-1 away from home to book their place in the next round. Managers Roddy MacDonald and Richard Gordon will be delighted with their progression through to the next round. They have been brilliant throughout October, and will take a massive amount of confidence from their cup tie with Symington Caledonian. The first half saw Symington Caledonian take the lead, and go into the break on top. It didn't take long however for them to back in the second half, as in form Andy Smith scored his fourth goal in as many games for Cambria. Joe Winnie was the man that put the icing on the cake for Cambria, and scored the winner that will take them through to the next round of the cup. Cambria will be excited by this victory, and will continue to play well in both league and cup competitions, and look to build on this already very impressive season. I spoke to Cambria Co Manager, Richard Gordon, and he said, "As expected this was a very very tough game. I didn't think there was much in it in the first half and it was just a piece of quality from the symington player with a left foot drive into the top corner that separated the teams after the first 45. However as usual this season the players really raleighed and worked their socks off for each other. The equaliser came early in the second with a fine header from Andy smith. That's him now scored 4 goals in 4 games. I think the advantage of us having a bigger squad then came into play as we were able to make a double substitution. The fresh legs really made the difference. Felt we took control of the game and deservedly took the lead through an excellent goal from Joe Winnie. He ran 30 yards with the ball before curling a 25 yard effort into the top corner. Even though I thought we were in control, with only a one goal lead anything was still possible. Our hearts were in our mouths right at the death but craig Ritchie somehow made a magnificent save. We can now get back to league business whilst still looking forward to the 4th round of the WOS.” Division 1 Eastwood Parkmount 'A' 4-1 Calderglen More of the same from Eastwood Parkmount 'A' would have been the request, and that is exactly what they have got. They have been brilliant all season, and Strathclyde University 0-1 St. Patrick's FP A very tight game between the two clubs, that was edged by the visitors, as St. Patrick's FP picked up all three points against Strathclyde University. St. Pat's will not only be happy about the three points, but also by the fact that they kept a clean sheet against a very good Strathclyde University team. Westerlands 'A' 1-1 Erskine A draw in this contest in the Greater Glasgow league, a point for each between Westerlands ‘A’ and Erskine. Both sides have been brilliant this year and they have both enjoyed good months, but they are going to be satisfied with picking up points in the top division of the Greater Glasgow league. Division 2
Third Lanark vs. Eaglesham
This game had to be abandoned due to a kit clash, more news from this fixture to follow very soon.
East Kilbride Y.M. 2-1 Colquhoun United Another win for the excellent East Kilbride YM this weekend, and they continue a good run of games. A valiant effort from Colquhoun United, they pushed a very good East Kilbride YM side right to the end in this very close game. The goal scorers were Murray McLure and the brilliant goal scoring superstar Scott Campbell. Campbell has been in phenomenal form all season long, this weekend Campbell scored his 20th goal of the season. East Kilbride YM will hope to keep the run going, but they will be delighted with sitting 2nd place having played 6 games this season. I managed to speak to Graeme Robertson, the manager of East Kilbride YM and he said, “tough game whilst nowhere near our best we can from behind to win the game.” FC Baillieston 3-0 Eastwood Parkmount 'B' A great win for FC Baillieston at home to Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ in the Greater Glasgow league, putting FC Baillieston up to 3rd place. Having now scored 22 goals from their opening 5 games, the very good FC Baillieston will be pleased with not only three points and three goals, but a clean sheet against a solid Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ side. Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ are going to put this one behind them, as it is their first loss in the league and they will want to get back to winning ways very soon. John Street 6-1 Ashvale Victoria Another brilliant victory for John Street, who have really changed themselves around from the start of the season, as they seem to get stronger and stronger. This weekend they won 6-1 against Ashvale Victoria. Ashvale Victoria have had a tough start to the season, but they have picked up a few wins along the way. They will want to put Saturday’s game behind them and be fully focussed on the tasks in hand to come. I managed to speak to John Street, and they have said, “captain iain Gilchrist scored an absolute screamer of a scissor kick from the edge of the box . Was a good Victory to build on now” Division 3 Bellaire 3-1 Busby A brilliant win for Bellaire this weekend as they beat Busby in the Greater Glasgow league. Busby were previously an under 21’s team, and now compete as a men’s team and they couldn’t get the job totally done on Saturday, but they will move onto next week and hope to go from there. Bellaire on the other hand picked up a brilliant win that they will be very pleased with the three points. They have now won one and lost one in the league a brilliant start to the season for Bellaire. South Lochaber Thistle 6-5 Boswell What a brilliant win for a South Lochaber Thistle side that have turned their season around in brilliant fashion. They have picked up their second huge win in two weeks, 6 points that they will be delighted with. Alan Gray’s men have scored 11 goals in their last 2 games, and South Lochaber Thistle’s Martin Munro who man of the match this weekend having scored three goals and set two up. Boswell were let down by some pre match problems, meaning game plans had to change, and they did not get the full warm up in due to the circumstances, and found themselves 3-0 down inside the first 20 minutes. Once they went 3-0 down, it sparked a reaction from Boswell, and they levelled it 3-3 at half time. South Lochaber Thistle came back out in the second half flying again, and Boswell couldn’t edge this one. The club’s superstar Steven Odunewu, who has been brilliant all season long, and this weekend he scored a hat trick for his side. The other two were scored by this weekend’s man of the match Sunil Chatterjee, the centre back that scored the other two goals for the visitors. It was a thrilling game between the two teams, and South Lochaber will be pleased with the win. Boswell should be pleased with the fact they were able to come back from behind the fashion in which they did. A belter of a game, one that will give both clubs confidence and positives going into their future matches. I managed to speak to Boswell this weekend, and they said, “we never got a proper warm up so got caught cold 3-0 after 20mins managed to get it back to 3-3 just before halftime lost another 3 in in the 2nd half got another 2 back missed a chance in the last couple of mins to draw but put it over the bar.” I managed to speak to South Lochaber Thistle, and they have said, “Second high scoring game in a row for us, with the home team just pipping the visitors at the post. Man of the Match and Captain Martin Munro scored a hat trick and offered two assists, while last week’s hero Erik Tot grabbed a goal as did as substitute Craig Cameron and midfield stalwart Dave Forbes nabbing a penalty. 3-0 up, 3-3, 6-3, 6-5 this seesaw game could not be described as dull.”
