West of Scotland Cup (Round 1) •Cambuslang Football Academy 4-1 PFD It was cup action this weekend for Cambuslang Football Academy, as they hosted PFD in the West of Scotland Cup. A tough day for PFD on Sunday, as Cambuslang FA were rampant in front of goal. Kieran Scott scored for Cambuslang FA, but the man of the match and the hat trick hero was the brilliant Paul McDonald. An exceptional all round performance from Cambuslang FA, as Paul McDonald was rampant in front of goal. This week I spoke to a proud Cambuslang Football Academy manager, Tam Graham, and he said, “I am really happy with my players and the attitude they had shown today. I asked the guys to go and set a marker. We started strong with a goal in the first 10 seconds of the game. However we then allowed PFD to take control of the game. We had to give ourselves a shake at halftime and credit the the guys, we went out in the second half and took control. I am really happy with everyone’s attitude and we have gone and set out a marker for this season.” Mulheron Scaffolding Services Premier 1 •Northend 1-3 Castlemilk Dynamo Another fantastic display from Castlemilk Dynamo this weekend and they picked up a brilliant 3-1 victory on the road, against a very good Northend side. The in form Andrew Cunningham increased his scoring tally, as he scored two more this weekend. The other goal came from Alan Kane, a brilliant all round display from Castlemilk Dynamo. Putting three past Northend is a brilliant, they conceded just eighteen goals in as many games last season, a very good side that will come back hungry in the weeks to come. Castlemilk Dynamo will be delighted by an excellent whole team display this Sunday. I spoke to Castlemilk Dynamo superstar Alan Semple, and he said, “good solid professional performance, running out comfortable 3-1 winners against title rivals Northend. Always a fierce, competitive game, played in the right spirit. One of the game we look forward to.” Alan Semple continued to say, “the man of the match award could have been shared by four or five players, but looking at the highlights, James Miller stole the show. Mark KIlpatrick bagged himself a brace as well as Duncan McLauchlan who also scored two. I managed to speak to Drumchapel United and they have said, “Probably our worst performance so far this season. Polonia will feel very hard done by not getting something out of the game. Most important thing is taking the 3 points and could prove vital come the end of the season. All the best to Polonia.” Mulheron Scaffolding Services Premier 2 •Castlemilk United 0-4 Brunswick A brilliant win this weekend for Brunswick, they were clinical away from home as they won 4-0 against Castlemilk United. Budhill United will put this one behind them and focus on returning to winning ways. They will be hungry for a win. A delighted Albion manager Brian Dornan has said, “Albion continued their winning ways today but never had it easy at all with ourselves taking the lead and within 10 mins budhill had brought it back to 1-1 and then last 25 mins of the first half was all budhill who had better of the chances first half. Second half made a sub and changed things to more like Albion the way we can play and took our chances when they came along good game of football played by both sides in terrible windy conditions”. •Haldane United 3-3 Sporting Pumas A brilliant game once again, and the Sporting Pumas remain unbeaten in over a year, they will be happy with a point and continuing their wins for over a year now. Glasgow Irish and Carluke Victoria will be delighted with their points. Both clubs record their first points of the season with the wins, and they will be pleased the account is now open and will hope to continue it onto more points in the coming weeks. Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 1 •Eastend Rovers 3-3 EK Athletic This looked like a brilliant match between two teams that would have gone at each other! EK Athletic are still top of the league they will be happy with remaining unbeaten having won three and drew one. They will be delighted with the clean sheet as well as the three points from this one. Provanmill Thistle will be looking to put this one behind them and focus on the next task in hand. New Stevenston United manager, Scott Bunting was delighted by his teams performance, as he said, “in a game where the wind was a nuisance to both teams, first half was sloppy with both sides trying to play football but struggling to find range of passes etc, long ball ended being most options. No deadlock at halftime. Second half New Stevenston upped the tempo and began to play flowing football, took the lead in 65 mins with quick passes and a through ball past the defence of Provanmill, 1 on 1 with the keeper, no mistake. Provanmill tried to intimidate New Stevensoton and were beginning to get frustrated with their own performance which resulted in some heavy tackles going in. New Stevenston continued to keep the ball and dominate the second half, 10 mins to go and new Stevenston got their second goals with a quick break that sent striker through on goal, he rounded the keeper and slotted home, Provanmill had run out of ideas and resorted to long balls to no avail. The game finished 2-0 to New Stevenston United and are happy to get off the mark with a disiplined vivtory and much better second half performance.” •Vale Rangers 3-3 Glenmill Thistle A cracking game between Vale Rangers and Glenmill Thistle this weekend, and the points were shared. Both sides will be satisfied with the result of this brilliant game, and to add a point to their tally, as well as both side scoring 3 each. For Vale Rangers it was Scott Cowan that bagged himself a double and the other goal was from William Taig. I managed to speak to Vale Rangers, and they said, “That’s a game we should have won, had a strong squad and we’re disappointed not to have taken all 3 points. Bottom of the league after 3 games isn’t representative of the quality we have in the side so we’re looking for a big improvement in the coming weeks.” •Weir Recreation 1-6 Eastwood Mearns A tough day for Weir Recreation who started the season with a win, will want to put this game behind them and return to winning ways. They are a very good side that play at a venue that clubs love to play their. Eastwood Mearns were clinical in front of goal this weekend and they will be delighted with the display and three more points. They have won two out of two now and have won their games in fantastic fashion having scored 11 from two games. They will be over the moon at their three points on the road this weekend, and Weir Recreation will put this one behind them and return to winning ways. The better team on the day won” I spoke to the manager of Eastwood Mearns, Steven Sharp who said, “We knew from the word go it was going to be a tough test for us but we set up with the right game plan and the effort my players put in was fantastic. Playing in this league is always going to be a challenge but it's one we are prepared for and today we stepped up to the plate and I'm delighted with what we showed. Personally I felt we showed that we are here to compete and not just to make up the numbers as some may think. We also need to be realistic this is just one game and although I'm happy it doesn't determine a season but full credit goes to my players who gave their all and as a Manager I can't ask for anything else.” Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 2 •Rutherglen Burgh 2-5 Glasgow Star An excellent game in the Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 2, with Glasgow Star coming out on top in this seven goal thriller. Glasgow Star were brilliant this Sunday scoring five great goals and they will be delighted to have picked up three points. A closely contested league it will be this year, Glasgow Star will know that the win will have a big impact coming the end of the season. Rutherglen Burgh will come back fighting and stronger than ever. •Bardykes Rovers 3-4 Blantyre Albion Another cracking game in the brilliant Sunday Central League, and this time a 7 goal thriller that could have gone either way. This time it was Blantyre Albion that edged the win, running out 4-3 winners. They will be delighted with this win on the road to a very good Bardykes Rovers team. Blantyre Albion will be pleased with sitting on top of the table at this stage of the season, they have been outstanding at the back this season, as they kept two clean sheets going into this one, so the fact Bardykes Rovers scored 3 times in testament to a good performance from the home club. Bardykes Rovers have scored 10 in their two opening games, a brilliant start for the club, they have a lot of positives to go into the next set of game with. •Kilsyth Rovers 4-1 Newmains United A good win for a strong Kilsyth Rovers side, who will be delighted with the start they have made to this season. They have won two out of three and will be pleased with Sunday’s display. The game came from Sean Tuohy, Niall Glen and two goals from a trialist, who seems to have made a very good impression. Newmains United will be quick to put this one behind them and move onto a new week and a new challenge. A well done must go to the brilliant Carlos Hernandez, who had to play, very much out of position as he had to go in goal, and he was brilliant. The goal scorer for Newmains United was Daniel Wells. I spoke to Colin Hughes, manager of Kilsyth Rovers, and he said, “After a slow start, the lads really came into the game, and for most parts dominated, took a fortunate, but deserved lead into half time, but losing 3 key players to injury didn’t help, but we showed determination to keep going even with the setbacks and took a deserved 3 points, much needed boost with the tough game coming up sunday against Calderside” •South Lanarkshire Ravers 1-3 Broadwood Cycle A good win, that has been on the cards for Broadwood Cycle who have had a tough start to the season. Broadwood Cycle have been playing well week after week and now will be pleased they have the three points to show that. They beat a good South Lanarkshire Ravens side, who have had a good start to the season, having, won one, drawn one, lost one, and will look to push on and string together a couple of wins. •Wellhouse 3-3 Bengal Lancers A brilliant game in the Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 3, as Bengal Lancers are coming off last weekend’s comeback...and they were back at it again this weekend. They picked up the point in stoppage time, making it 3-3 and earning the club a point. The weekend before that, Bengal Lancers turned a 3-1 loss into a 4-3 win inside the last 15 minutes. Wellhouse’s John Jaconelli scored a hat trick this weekend, an outstanding display from Jaconelli for his club. Ryan Barbour was brilliant too in his link with the super Jaconelli as he set up all three goals for the man of the match, John Jaconelli. I managed to speak to Wellhouse, and they said, “We were leading right up to stoppage time. But just couldn’t see it out. John jaconelli was the man of the match with his 3 goals. But special mention for Ryan Barbour and our goalie Dylan laing. Ryan had 3 asissts and Dylan made a few good saves. It was a good match and the whole team played well. Was good to finally get a point but it should have been 3”. Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 3 •East Lane 1-0 Queenslie A close game at East Lane this weekend, but they continue their unbeaten run of game in the league to kick off this season. This was a top versus second clash, and it was a close one, and both clubs remain in their respective positions. East Lane have been relentless in the early stages of this season, they scored 18 in their first two league games, and a very different game this weekend, but the same result, three points for the club. Queenslie will be proud of how they battled in this one and will be out for revenge and will be hungry the next matches. A cracking game in the league from the two clubs, with the only goal coming from an own goal, by Queenslie’s Paul Foy. East Lane awarded the man of the match award to Tony Hopkins, and Queenslie awarded their man of the match award to Dean Harvey. East Lane line up: Adam, Jonathan Hutchinson, Stephen Hopkins, Ryan Quigley, Callum Kay, John Joe, Tony Hopkins, Andy Collins, Scott Turner, Scott Lewis, Martin Sinclair. I spoke to the East Lane manager, and he said, “Queenslie will feel that after a 1-0 loss they were unlucky and should have taken more from the game, while East Lane leave happy to maintain their winning run and increase their lead at the top of the table though some many feel disappointed that the score should have been more in the Lane favour.” I managed to speak to Queenslie, and they have said, “We felt we gave a good account of ourselves considering the form that East Lane had been in and contested the game well.” •Eastwood Mearns B 4-5 Nethercraigs A thrilling game between Eastwood Mearns B and Nethercraigs, 9 goals epic between two good clubs. The win went slightly the way of Nethercraigs as they won it 5-4 in the end. A brilliant game to prove what a brilliant competitive league, and narrow wins like this one can lead to a massive advantage at the business end of the season. A brilliant game from Eastwood Mearns B also, they will be pleased with their performance despite the result. •Summerston Amateurs 3-3 Glasgow Athletic A draw at Summerston Amateurs this weekend, and they drew 3-3 with Glasgow Athletic in the Cutting Edge Engravers Championship 3.
