West of Scotland Cup (Round 3) •EKRR (SAFL) vs. Helensburgh Third time lucky between the two clubs that are hoping to get their West of Scotland Cup fixture on and continue with their season. Visit Helensburgh will be hungry to get back on the park and get stuck into EKRR after a good start to the season, but a long break. I spoke to Helensburgh and they have said, “Hoping that it’s third time lucky as we once again wait to visit East Kilbride RR. It’s really frustrating for both teams as we are falling behind in the league games which has its disadvantages come the end of the season. Squad wise we should have everyone available which makes for a difficult choice for manager Sam Gemmell” •Westercommon Star (SSML) vs. Westcliff A tough weekend last weekend for Westcliff but they will be hoping to reset now and focus on a competition they kicked off with a 7-0 win awhile ago. They have all of the tools and are through the worst of a storm and will be excited to this West of Scotland Cup match. I managed to speak to Westcliff and they have said, “Hoping to to bounce back and get back to playing a few players have since left the club but can only make us stronger as a unit. Earlier kick off time of 12 O'Clock the boys looking forward to playing at petershill juniors park with a small stadium good surface to play”. Division 1 •Calderglen vs. Jordanhill After a week off for Jordanhill again this weekend, they will be ready to get going in the league this weekend as they are on the road to Calderglen. Jordanhill are well rested after what will feel like a long time out of action, but they will hope the time off will allow some of the injured players on what was a growing injury list time to recover and return this weekend. This month’s SportCentral October Greater Glasgow Division 1 player of the month is Jordanhill’s Mark Reid, a well deserved result for Mark Reid, who will hope to continue his fine form into this weekend. Calderside on the other hand did play last weekend, in a very tough game against Eastwood Parkmount ‘A’ who are having a brilliant couple of months, they have been brilliant. I managed to speak to Jordanhill and they have said, “Not played Calderglen in a few years! Not sure what to expect, but we are happy to have a number of players return from injury and holiday. Really big game for us! As it is, every game is going to be a difficult one on this division.” •Eaglesham vs. Strathclyde University No game last weekend for Eaglesham but they will be fully focussed on this weekends task of Strathclyde University. Strathclyde University will be quick and young, and both teams will be looking to claim all three points in this one. •Erskine vs. St. Patrick’s FP Erskine have been on a roll as of late, and have played really well to begin this season, and last weekend picked up a point away from home. They are at home this weekend to St. Patrick’s FP, who were outstanding last weekend pulling off a 1-0 win against Strathclyde University away from home. Both clubs will be up for this clash, that really could go either way, it is too early to call, and a cracking game is in store. •Glasgow University ‘A’ vs. Cambria In form Cambria will be delighted with their current position at the top of the table and will be wanting to close the point game with a win this weekend. They are on the road to Glasgow University ‘A’ and are going to take confidence into this game, after their excellent 2-1 win away from home in the West of Scotland Cup Round 3 last weekend as they beat Symington Caledonian. Cambria will be delighted with the start they have made and will hope to continue it against a very good young side, Glasgow University ‘A’. They had a break last weekend as due to weather, but they will want to come back hungry this weekend at home to a good Cambria side. •Newton Vale vs. Westerlands ‘A’ Another side that have started the season well, Newton Vale, who find themselves third in the table with a game in hand, will be desperate to get on the park this weekend. Their match did not take place last weekend and they are hungry to get back get back to action and hope to pick up three points. They are just two points behind top spot with a game in hand, so they are sitting in a very strong position currently. Westerlands have also started the season well and they are currently just three points behind Newton Vale, so a win this weekend would seal the gap between the clubs. Both clubs will be looking forward to this clash, that is set to be a belter. I managed to speak to Newton Vale and they said, “Boys are buzzing to get a competitive game on after not playing in a few weeks. 19 available for tomorrow’s friendly so will give everyone the chance to earn a place in the starting team. We’re also at our new home ground on Saturday at Newton which is a new Astro park so the boys are buzzing to getting the ball down and play on that decent surface” Division 2 •Ashvale Victoria vs. FC Baillieston FC Baillieston have started the season in excellent fashion, and they are going to hope that this weekend is no exception. They picked up a comprehensive 3-0 victory last weekend at home, and were delighted with the goalscoring, as well as the clean sheet. Third Lanark have won all six of their opening six games, and scoring 31 league goals already, which will give them confidence going into a tough test away from home. They are up against Colquhoun United, who had struggled at the beginning of this year, but are ready to turn that around, and will want to do it against the current leaders to make a statement. This is going to be a brilliant match that neither side will want to lose. Proud Third Lanark manager David Ampleford has said, “I’m looking forward to coming up against Colquhoun. A team who’ll make for a very competitive game. Our ever growing injury list in continuing but we’ll still be strong.” •Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’ vs. Crookston Castle Crookston Castle have won three out of three in the league so far, and will be hoping to make it four this weekend, as they are on the road to Eastwood Parkmount ‘B’. They two clubs will be looking forward to this encounter, they are both hoping to continue excellent starts. •North Kelvin Sports vs. Glasgow University ‘B’ Two clubs that are looking to really kick start their seasons this weekend, will want to take home the full three points. Glasgow University B are on the road to North Kelvin Sports. The University team have a win to their name though, and will hope that will give them an advantage on the road this weekend to a hungry North Kelvin Sports team. •Westerlands G.G. vs. John Street A great couple of weeks of games for John Street, who find themselves in 5th place, after a tougher start to the season. They have really pulled through, and the icing on the cake and evidence of that, was their 6-1 win last weekend. They will be delighted with that win and will want to continue in similar fashion this weekend on their travels to Westerlands GG. Westerlands GG had a break last weekend and they will now want to get back on the park and pick up the points, but they will have expecting very tough opponents this weekend, as John Street roll into town. I spoke to John Street and they have said, “we are away to westerlands last season we played them we came back from 5-1 down with ten men to finish 5-5 so looking forward to another hopefully action packed game , we are looking to build a run in the league and last weeks performance is a good starting block” Division 3 •Bellaire vs. Carradale Carradale have the long drive up to Bellaire this weekend for division 3 action, and they are playing an in form Bellaire. Last weekend, Carradale did not have a game as the fixture did not take place in the end, but they are up against Bellaire, who are coming off a very good 3-1 win at home last weekend. This will be a brilliant 3rd vs 5th contest between two very good clubs. •Boswell vs. Busby A tough last couple of weeks for a very good Boswell side, who will hope to turn it around this weekend at home. They have been involved in some classic games, such as last weekend’s 11 goal thriller, that could have gone either way.
