Lots of goals and some football on display.” •Rutherglen Rovers 0-3 Haldane United A tough game for Rutherglen Rovers as they hosted a very good Haldane United, who were in great form. Rutherglen Rovers will hope to forget about cup action now, and focus their undivided attention on the league and continue to play well and pick up points in the league. Haldane United however will be delighted with the progression through to the next round of the Sunday Central League Cup. I managed to speak to Raymond Brady, Assistant Manager of Rutherglen Rovers, "We were up against a decent and well organised team in Haldane, it was always going to be tough. We played well at times and gave them some problems, at 0-2 we had a number of chances to get back into the game. The Haldane keeper pulled off a few good saves and we hit the woodwork, as we pushed to get back into Haldane scored their 3rd late on. We will take positives again from our performance but we need to improve and turn these good performances into results" •HSV 7-0 Cambuslang Football Academy HSV were in fine form, as they picked up a 7 goal win and a clean sheet at home to Cambuslang Football Academy. HSV will be delighted with the win, and the progression to the next round. After a tough day for the Cambuslang Football Academy, they will want to put league action to the front of their minds, and try and string together wins in the league. I spoke to inspiration Cambuslang FA manager Tam Graham, and he said, “It was a bad day at the office for us, we didn’t show up at all. We had a feeling that HSV were going to be strong and disciplined and we set ourselves up to try and prevent that, however our plan just didn’t work and that was down to our attitude towards the game. We just didn’t look up for it at all and HSV were more hungry. All credit to HSV they are a very good side and they play really good football and expect them to be challenging in their respective division this season. I want to wish them all the best in the next round and for the season ahead. After the game the message to the players was to learn from this and we need to bounce back as we have a tough test next week in the 3rd round of the Sunday Amateur Trophy against Westside from Edinburgh who on paper have a magnificent record. We will need to be back to our best to match them.” •Brunswick 5-3 Rutherglen Burgh A thrilling contest as eight goals were scored between Brunswick and Rutherglen Burgh, and it was the home club Brunswick who came out on top. PFD have been in great league form this season, but they have a tough cup tie, having to go to Castlemilk United. Castlemilk United win excellent form this weekend, scoring three good goals at home, and progressing through to the League Cup, a competition in which they will hope to do very well in. PFD will be ready to get going in the league and pick their league form back up, but Castlemilk United will be delighted by the win, will look forward to the next round of the cup. The PFD goal came from Kyle Brown. •Albion 1-2 EastEnd Tower A very good cup tie between two good sides, in a game that was pinched by the Premier 1 club, EastEnd Tower. Albion will be delighted by their performance however, they are a very good side, and they came up against another great side, and it could have gone either way. The honours could have gone to any side, a close encounter, and both clubs can take positives on to future games with them. The EastEnd Tower goal was scored by Tommy Cameron and Peter Driscoll, but the man of the match was awarded to Mark Smith. The Albion goal was scored by Ian Gallacher. I managed to speak to EastEnd Tower and they said, “Not our greatest performance but we still controlled much of the game and came out with the win with Albion scoring a late consolation goal.” I also managed to speak to Brian Dornan, and he said, “good game of football played in the correct manner with both teams attacking and trying to win the game we found ourselfs 1 down from there corner and then 2-0 down due to a mistake from our keeper coming out to collect ball and missed it and ended up 2-0 down then with 10 mins left to play Ian Gallacher smashes a 30 yards strike into the top corner”. •Bengal Lancers 1-4 Broadwood Cycle The comeback kings, Bengal Lancers came up against Broadwood Cycle, a team that have seemingly returned back to their best in the past couple of weeks. Nethercraigs gave their all in this game, a close game between the two and Nethercraigs have a lot of postives to take through to league action with them, and Eastend Rovers will be excited see what the cup holds for them. The goals for Eastend Rovers came from striker Sam Donald who penalty as well as a cracking goal from a free kick, proving to be deadly from the set peice, and the other goal was also from a set piece, as centre half Scott Bannister scored from a corner. The Nethercraigs goal came from Jordan McBride, a brilliant cup tie, both clubs have positives to be taken from this one. I managed to speak to Stephen Hill of Eastend Rovers, and he said, “Close game with 2 teams who battled competitively. There wasn’t a great deal between the teams we were just a bit more clinical in front of goal. Not our greatest performance but great to keep the momentum going after a strong start to the season for us. Can see Nethercraigs pushing all the way in Division 3 also. Looking forward to see what the next round brings us and as always we will be up for whatever challenge lies ahead.” I also had the chance to speak to Nethercraigs, and they said, “Was a typical physical cup game on a less than impressive grass park. Both teams still played some good football though and maybe if we had taken our chances we could have gotten a result nonetheless Eastend did what they had to do and got the result and we wish them all the best in the cup and for the rest of the season.” •EastEnd Star 4-1 Summerston Ams Another great win for Eastend Star this weekend as they beat Summerston Ams at home in the League Cup. The clubs went toe to toe in an excellent game including 7 goals, with the home club, East Lane picking up the victory. The East Lane goals were scored by S.Christensen, J.Hutchison, T.Hopkins and S.Lewis. I managed to speak to Wellhouse, and they have said, “We went a couple of goals down early but got it back to 2-2.we then conceded before half time and the just after. We got it back to 4-3 and for most of the 2nd half we dominated but just couldn’t force penalties. As I say it was a great game. It had everything. We eventually went down to 9 men with 2 red cards and the home team also got 1 red card.” I also managed to speak to East Lane, and they have said, “A perfect 5 wins from our last 5 games though there were a few changes from last week after we failed to score against Queenslie when an own goal gifted us the points. Johnathan Creasé Hutchison replaces Scott Turner on the right wing supported by Jordan Agnew behind him with Scott Murphy replaces Ccalum Kkay at left back and Stephen Christensen joining Tony Hopkins and Andrew Collins in the middle of the park. Went in at half time 4 nil up and conceded a very sloppy goal at start of 2nd half with slack play from wee Tam costing Rennie his clean sheet. Went on to score 3 more running out 7-1 winners. Missed a couple of good chances and hit the woodwork 3 times which could have seen us add to our tally. I spoke to Colin Hughes of Kilsyth Rovers, and he said, “tough result to take, as we have Calderside a good run for their money, however the class showed from them as they were more Clinical than we were, on a different day, could have been different, but congratulations to Gary Gilmour and the Calderside lads for the next round”. •Newmains United 1-6 Sporting Pumas A tough day out for Newmains United who hosted the Sporting Pumas, a side that have been excellent all season, as well as last season. A special mention does go to Andrew Brady this week for Vale Rangers who had to step up and play out of position, by going in goal, and he played brilliantly. I managed to speak to Vale Rangers and they have said, ““Game of two halves” if ever you’ve seen one. Two down at half time, including a missed penalty from ourselves.
