Scottish Cup (Round 3) •Calderglen 2-2 Singer Community (GCAFA) A replay is required for Calderglen this weekend, as they drew an excellent game against GCAFA club Singer Community. They were at home in this one and drew 2-2, so they will have more Scottish Cup action to look forward to, in the replay. They will be on the road in the replay, but will be up for the challenge in this prestigious competition. Calderglen will be pleased with todays result. •Calderglen (SSMAFL) 2-1 Erskine Erskine should be proud of their display despite result this weekend, as they came up against a very good Calderglen side, not the Greater Glasgow League side, but the SSMAFL based team. They were on the road and pushed their opponents all the way, and will have a lot to take from this game. •Callander Th (CAL) 0-3 Dynamo East Kilbride An exceptional win for the comeback kings Dynamo East Kilbride this weekend. Despite being known as the comeback kings, due to the fact they have come from behind to win, in all games in October, they didn’t need to come from behind to win this one. They will be delighted with the clean sheet against a very good Callander Th. Dynamo East Kilbride have enjoyed an excellent season, and progressing through to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. They have worked very hard to get to this point, an outstanding team, that will be flying the Greater Glasgow League flag in the next round. I managed to speak to Dynamo East Kilbride and they said, “we bet Callander thistle in the Scottish cup 3-0 away great performance from the guys as we without a couple of our senior players but the young guys that came in were awesome. William stalker, a fantastic hat trick and all round performance from him, man of the match for sure.” •Eastwood Parkmount A 1-3 Lenzie Th (SSML) This season, Eastwood Parkmount A have been in outstanding form, but this weekend they came up against a very good Lenzie Th side of the SSML in the Scottish Cup third round. Lenzie Thistle are a newly formed team, that have also enjoyed a brilliant season, and they picked up an excellent win away from home against an excellent side. Eastwood Parkmount A will be fully focussed and ready for league action now, they have been brilliant so far. •FC Baillieston 5-1 Rosehill Star (SAFL) A phenomenal win for FC Baillieston this weekend, as they beat Rosehill Star in the Scottish Cup third round. A phenomenal win and performance from FC Baillieston, they are going to be one of the clubs flying the flag for the Greater Glasgow League. FC Baillieston have been awesome all season long, and they are going to continue, and will hope to take a lot of confidence from this one into league action and the next round of the cup. •FC Bayside (KoFAFA) 5-0 Boswell A very difficult day for Boswell, as they came up against a very strong side in the Scottish Cup. Boswell were on the road to FC Bayside of the KoFAFA, a tough game for the Greater Glasgow League club. They will not focus on the league, and put cup action out of their minds. They have been playing well in the league and will want to go back to that. •Helensburgh 1-3 St James (MAFA) A win for the MAFA club St James in this one over Helensburgh of the Greater Glasgow League. Helensburgh have been playing cup games for weeks on end, and this is where this one ends. They can now focus on the league, something they have been looking forward to do. They have given it their everything last weekend and this weekend, they faced a very strong St James. I managed to speak to Helensburgh, and they have said, “Lost 3-1 to a very decent StJames team from Dundee. However shot ourselves in the foot with losing three sloppy goals. Missed a penalty and also fluffed enough of our own chances that would have made a difference. Two losses in the past two weeks but against real strong opposition. We’ve competed really well and it should give us confidence in the upcoming league games” •John Street 1-4 Tollcross Th (LEAFA) A tough game for John Street at home to Tollcross Thistle of the LEAFA in the Scottish Cup, they knew they were going to be up against very difficult competition. John Street have been in excellent league form this season, and now they can focus on the league. Tollcross Thistle will pass through to the next round, and John Street will be focussing on league action. Division 1 •Eaglesham 1-6 Newton Vale Newton Vale have been in fine form all season, and that has not ended this weekend. They were on the road this weekend to Eaglesham, and pulled off an excellent victory against a very good side in Eaglesham. Newton Vale remain unbeaten and they remain top of the table, two things they will be delighted with. They have proved a lot this season, and will be a tough team to beat. Eaglesham will know they played a tough side, but they will want to forget this game, and focus on the what’s upcoming. The Newton Vale goals were scored by Jay Stevenson, Kevin McFarlane, and doubles from Martin Jones, and superstar Marc McFarlane. •Glasgow University A 3-3 St. Patrick’s FP Another excellent game in the Greater Glasgow League, and this thriller ends in a draw. It could have gone either way. The two clubs scored three goals each, and will be satisfied with their points, as the University club, hosted St Patrick’s FP. A tough game for both clubs, but they’ll have plenty of positives going forward in the top division. •Jordanhill 1-1 Westerlands A A draw between two good sides in this division 1 clash. Jordanhill have had a growing injury list, but they will have hoped a few weekends with breaks will have helped the healing process, and they will be pleased with a draw against a very good Westerlands A side. Westerlands A have been excellent this season, and will be pleased with a draw this weekend on the road, and although they would have loved the full three points, they will settle for a draw. A great game between two good sides that could have gone either way. I spoke to Iain Brown of Jordanhill, and he has said, “a really heavy pitch had a big impact on game. Game of two halves. Jordanhill dominated first half and a fine finish from Toby Cole gave us the lead but westerlands did well to come back 2nd half. Crazy few decisions from referee led to westerlands penalty. A clean tackle led to a fee kick. he then missed a push in the box against our defender. This led to a cross, which the ball was battered against hand in a natural position. Penalty was given and just summed up our day. We are not a team to complain about the referee, but the man in the middle had a big impact on the game. Don’t want to take anything away from Westerlands, who are always a competitive opponent, but we are disappointed not to finish with 3 points.” •Strathclyde University 2-3 Cambria An incredible match this weekend, in Greater Glasgow League top division, and it could have gone either way. Cambria have been in brilliant form, and they will be delighted by the win. Cambria edged this one, and remain second in the table. The Cambria goals were scored by Matteas Law, and then a double for Sam Gray, who will be pleased with firing his team in the lead and picking up three points. Strathclyde University pushed the visitors all of the way, but couldn’t quiet beat a very strong side. I spoke to Cambria manager, Roddy McDonald, and he said, “Uni had the best of the early exchanges with keeper Mackenzie making a fantastic one handed save pushing a goal bound rocket onto the bar, after 15 minutes a great weighted pass from Lynch to Grey ended with Grey lobbing the keeper for a 1-0 lead from Cambria, however after a 5 minute spell of hard work the Uni got themselves level with an excellent finish, the Uni dominated the rest of the half eventually winning a penalty to take a well deserved lead at Half time. Two changes at halftime resulted in Cambria coming back into the game and equalising after a great move from the middle of the park saw Fox wip the ball in for a Grey second from his head. Cambria continued to chase the win with MacDonald on for Smith up front eventually Blal crossed and Law finished to give Cambria a 3-2 win.” Division 2 •East Kilbride YM 4-2 Eastwood Parkmount B A great win last weekend for Eastwood Parkmount B, but they had a tough day against the excellent East Kilbride this Saturday. East Kilbride YM picked up a 4-2 win at home in division, to remain in second place, and chasing Third Lanark. East Kilbride YM have a very strong side, and were involved in a difficult match, as Eastwood Parkmount B have been excellent as of late, and they currently sit 5th. A brilliant game with 6 goals scored, and both clubs have positives that can be taken onto the next weekend. I spoke to Graeme Robertson, manager of East Kilbride YM, and he said, “Tough game vs Eastwood 'B', sluggish start but a fantastic strike from the returning Jack Brown saw us go 1-0 up at half time. We knew we could do better and we extended our lead to 3 with a free kick from scott Campbell and a tap in for jack brown. We then took our foot off the gas and allowed eastwood two goals through sloppy defending. With 15 minutes to go it looked like eastwood would nick a draw but ross Anderson rounded off the scoring to make it 4-2 in the last minute of the match. Deserved winners but we must cut out the slackness that allowed them back in the match. Man of the match Josh Cairns - great shift from the central midfielder who drove the team forward winning tackles, headers and being unlucky not score himself.” •Crookston Castle 11-1 North Kelvin Sports Another tough day for North Kelvin Sports as they travelled to Crookston Castle in Division 2, who will be delighted with the fact they scored 11 goals this Saturday. Crookston Castle are currently third placed and have won 4 out of 5 of their opening games, and will be looking to keeping picking up wins and rising up the table. Crookston Castle have scored 26 goals from 5 games, and the clinical scoring will be noted by other clubs in the league. •Glasgow University B 0-2 Third Lanark Another win for Third Lanark as they make it 8 wins out of 8. Another excellent victory for the club, this weekend it was away to the university side, Glasgow University B. They also kept a clean sheet and goal keeper David Scott, who has enjoyed an incredible season so far, and has been keep multiple clean sheets for the top of the table side. This weekend, Third Lanark’s man of the match was Grant Black, and there was some familiar names on the score sheet, as cool as ice, Marc Corlett and this season’s superstar Alan Semple. Glasgow University B will have known they were up against a very strong side, and will look to bounce back next weekend. Third Lanark continue rolling and will be delighted with picking up 24 out of 24 points this season. We did a Q&A with David Ampleford, manager of Third Lanark in last week’s preview, and would be great for any who missed that to check it out. I managed to speak to David Ampleford, manager of Third Lanark, and he said, “Today was tough for us. On one hand, we weren’t at our best. They were deservedly down to 10 men but battled well. We played ok but at times we weren’t working hard enough. On the other hand, we’ve won 8 in 8 and just had our 4th consecutive clean sheet so I have to say that its a cracking job the boys are doing.” •Rannoch 2-1 Colquhoun United Another tough day for Colquhoun United, but as we have mentioned before their league position is not a true reflection of what they are capable of, as they are very good side. Last weekend they pushed top of the table Third Lanark all of the way, making it tough for them, and they did the same with Rannoch this weekend. Rannoch will be delighted with their win this weekend, and doubling their point tally for the season, and they will hope this leads to a run of games. You can go as quickly up this table as you can down it, and they are now just 3 points behind 5th place, a very tight and exciting league. •Westerlands GG 1-1 Ashvale Victoria Two very good sides went head to head, and did not have a lot separating them at the start of the day, and they didn’t by the end either, as they drew 1-1. Westerlands GG have now won two drawn two lost two in the league and Ashvale Victoria just sit a point behind them. Both sides would have wanted the three points, but they will both take a point as a positive from this one. Division 3 •Busby 4-6 South Lochaber Thistle The very in form South Lochaber Thistle have been on fire as of late, and after a seriously good run of wins, they have risen up the table and they remain second in the table and are now joint on points with front runners Newshot. They won this one away from home, and once again scored 6 goals. There has not been a dull game in the past four or five weeks for SLT, another 10 goal thriller. They did play against the young Busby, who will have been delighted with pushing their opposition the whole way to the end, but they knew it will be a tough game. They will be proud of scoring 4, and will take the positives through to the next fixtures. The South Lochaber Thistle goals were scored by Forbes and Craig, but their was two stars that scored double, and they were Martin Munro and Andrew Smith. South Lochaber Thistle have been outstanding as of late and will take a tremendous amount of confidence through to next weekend with them. •Westcliff 6-1 St Thomas An excellent win for Westcliff this weekend, as they won at home, and have let the football do the talking. St Thomas on the other hand have had some tough games and are looking for a change in fortune, but they will putting this one behind them to focus on the next weekend. Westcliff on the other hand will be delighted with their first league win of the season, and will be looking to make this a run of wins, they now find themselves 7th in the league.
