The clubs gave their everything this weekend in the Championship 1.
I managed to speak to Eastwood Mearns manager Steven Sharp, and he said, “It has definitely been a weekend of mixed emotions if I'm honest. Getting a draw from the team top of the league is a good point especially being a brand new club but to be winning 5-3 and it end a draw is a hard one to take. From my point of view we lost some very sloppy goals and it's going to be extremely difficult to win games when you concede 5 goals but we will take that on board, look to work on the mistakes and move on. It's vital we don't have lapses in concentration against the top sides because you'll get punished and EK proved that. The positives are we scored 5 as well and second half we certainly showed a lot more character so we now take that into next game and look to get back to winning ways.”
I managed to speak to EK Athletic and they have said, “done well to pull it back as we were 3-2 up then got a man poorly sent off. Ended up 5-3 down in the last 15 minutes then managed to get back into the game and score another two goals. Feel like we could have won it at the end but a draw wasn’t the worst result.”

Weir Recreation’s goals were scored by Colin Russell, Grant Stewart and an excellent double for the excellent Dylan Stewart.
I spoke to Scott MacGregor of Weir Recreation, and he said, “On a cold day and with the surface being a bit bobbly we knew we would have our work cut out for us. Playing a well organised Provanmill Thistle team who have been freshly rejuvenated it was always going to be a difficult game. They started well and we conceded a penalty early. The taker converted well. This gave us the boost we needed and we started to get our foot on the ball and scored 3 good goals in the next 15 minutes. The rest of the game was a battle and a goal a piece in the 2nd half left us convincing winners. All the best to Provanmill Thistle, look forward to the return”

The Kilsyth Rovers goals were scored by Krissy Wilson, Ross Bothwell and Nathan Armstrong, and then a hat trick from the brilliant Steven Armstrong.
I managed to speak to Colin Hughes, the manager of Kilsyth Rovers, and he said, “was a end to end game, with Rutherglen starting the brighter of the 2, scoring after 3 mins, with us equalising a min later through krissy Wilson, but straight from kick off, they went back up and scored, big turning point in match was a missed penalty from Rutherglen, which spurred Kilsyth on and push on for the win.”

I managed to speak to Wellhouse and they have said, “again we started ok and took a lead probably against the run of play. But then defensive errors cost us and we were left trying to fight our way into the game. We got a late consolation. Newmains were pretty good and had 1 or 2 good players. That was our 3rd game away. So this weekend we are back at home and we need to start picking up points”.
I spoke to Newmains United manager Paul McMahon, and he said, “I was delighted to pick up the 3pts today... We wanted to get back to winning ways & not give up anymore ground to the teams above us in the league... we started against wellhouse, on the front foot & had a couple of chance to go infront.A slack header back to our goalkeeper, allowed wellhouse to take the lead against the run of play... but the boys rallied together & within 3 mins we were level. Great play down the right hand side from Corrie hunter, saw him deliver a cross inch perfect, for James fisher to score.. 2 mins later we were infront, with a great solo goal from striker Darren Murphy.... on the half hour mark, craig Mcgiff scored to make it 3-1 going into half time.. Second half, wellhouse came out determined not to give up, with a few meaty challenges getting flung about... Murphy scored again to kill the game off after an hour, then completed his hat trick with some nice play in the box & and a neat finish in at the near post... wellhouse then nicked another goal, after sloppy play in possession at the back, allowed they're striker to nip in n score.... sub stephen Mcgregor was only on the park for a minute, when he completed the scoring to make it 6-2... M.o.M Darren Murphy on another day it could have been double figures, but poor finishing & an excellent performance from wellhouse' goalkeeper kept the score down. We've had a hard few weeks in the cups, but hopefully we've turned a corner... we're now preparing for broadwood away next week, as that will be tough place to go”
