Greater Glasgow League Preview: A Huge Weekend In League Action, And Cambria Will Fly The GG Flag In
West of Scotland Cup (Round 4) •Cambria vs. Garrowhill Thistle (CEN) This weekend, Cambria find themselves in West of Scotland Cup action at home to Garrowhill Thistle. Cambria have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, and they will be up for this cup competition. They would love to go through to the next round, and last weekend, they had their first loss of the season, so they will see this weekend as retribution, and they will be hungry for a win this weekend in the cup. I managed to speak to Cambria manager, Roddy McDonald, and he said, “Its West of Scotland week for the Cambria AFC GGPL team facing Central Scottish side Garrowhill Thistle in the 4th round. Saturday requires nothing less than 100%+ we have to focus on taking our chances being calm and composed in front of goal. Saturday will be a defining point in our season as a team we must be at our best to take the team into the next round.” Division 1 •Calderglen vs. Newton Vale Top of the table, and flying high, is Newton Vale as of late, they are unbeaten at the top of the top division in the league. They are on the road this weekend to Calderglen, a side that will be another tough test for the visitors. Calderglen are after their first win of the season, and they will know if they pick up a win against top of the table, it will send a massive statement to the rest of the teams in the league. Newton Vale has been on fire as of late, they have played 7, won 6 and drawn 1 and they will hope to keep their unbeaten run going. This is going to be a good game! •Eastwood Parkmount A vs. Glasgow University A The in form Eastwood Parkmount A have been excellent in the top division of the Greater Glasgow League and they have won 4 out of 5 games! They will be up for the visit of the university team, and Eastwood Parkmount A have two games in hand on top of the table, and will hope to continue their run of form this weekend in the cup. Glasgow University A will hope to make a huge statement against Eastwood Parkmount A. Glasgow University are a good side, young and fit and will be ready to go. •Erskine vs. Eaglesham 3rd places, Erskine, picked up an incredible match last weekend, and they beat Cambria 3-1, away from home, an awesome victory for the home club. Erskine have been in excellent form and will want to continue it through to this weekend’s home game against Eaglesham. Eaglesham have been awesome too, they have had a weekend off last weekend and will be ready for their road trip. •Jordanhill vs. Strathclyde University The home club, Jordanhill have been excellent and are going to be hungry to get back on the park this weekend after a game being postponed! They are at home to Strathclyde University this weekend, a side that are coming off an excellent win, winning 2-1 away from home against the in form Dynamo East Kilbride. This will be an excellent game between, two very good sides. I spoke to Iain Brown of Jordanhill, and they have said, “Would love the game to be on this weekend. We have been unlucky with the weather last few weeks and dying to get back playing. We welcome Strathclyde Uni. Really don’t know what to expect, but expecting a close tie. Fingers crossed weather holds off.” •Westerlands A vs. Dynamo East Kilbride The comeback kings, Dynamo East Kilbride have been brilliant this season, including a recent incredible cup win, they are going to be ready to get back on the park after a tough result last weekend. They flying the flag for the league in the cup still, and they are an exceptional side, Dynamo East Kilbride. Westerlands A are coming back from a weekend without a game, and they will be hungry to get back on the park!
Division 2 •Crookston Castle vs. Colquhoun United Two teams, that are at different ends of the table go head to head this weekend, but that doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to football, it matters about your form over the 90 minutes this Saturday! Crookston Castle have been brilliant all season, winning 5 out of their 6 games, and Crookston Castle are going to be remain hot on the heels of league leaders Third Lanark. Colquhoun United are on the hunt for their first win, and they have been playing a lot better than their league position suggests. They have been putting in great performances, and the first win, is just around the corner. •East Kilbride YM vs. Ashvale Victoria Second placed, East Kilbride YM are at home, and they are on the heels of Third Lanark. East Kilbride YM’s super striker, Scott Campbell has enjoyed a great start to the season, and they will hope their high scoring striker will be at his best this weekend, so they can continue to hunt for top spot. Ashvale Victoria will be half way through their league campaign after this game, and therefore will hope they can pick up a win, to give them momentum going into the second half of their campaign? •Glasgow University B vs. Westerlands B Two university sides will go head to head this weekend, and the in form Westerlands B will be up for their game against Glasgow University B. The home club will know this will be tough, but with both teams, possessing you and strong players, they will know is will be a good game. •John Street vs. North Kelvin Sports The hosts, John Street have been playing very well as of late, and the hosts will know that their upcoming game is going to be one that can propel them up the ladder. North Kelvin Sports have had a very tough start to the season, and will want to change that around, and they will hope a win, could be the way to turn that around. John Street are an in form club and they will hope to build on their performances. I managed to speak to John Street, and they have said, “should be an interesting game 3 of north kelvins players came to us at the start of the season , should get a result and put us back on track been unlucky last few results as the team has put a performance in we should be winning with.” •Rannoch vs. Eastwood Parkmount B 6th placed, Rannoch are coming up against 7th placed Eastwood Parkmount B, in a game that could go either way. The two clubs have the same amount of points, and even when it comes to goal difference, there is just 1 goal to separate the clubs. Rannoch are going to hope, home ground advantage can play a part, and Eastwood Parkmount will be positive based on their current form. The two clubs know a win will be huge for a club, as they remain level on points. •Third Lanark vs. FC Baillieston Top of the table and flying very high, as unbeaten Third Lanark prepare to battle FC Baillieston this weekend in the Greater Glasgow League division 2. FC Baillieston have been in brilliant form also, and have shot up to 4th place, and will want to continue their run of games. Third Lanark have been great since day 1 in the league, having played 8 and won all 8 of those games! They will want to continue their form after their weekend off last weekend, and will hope to keep their incredible run going. They have been great going forward, but also, defensively, they have conceded just 7 goals in 8 games, a cracking statistic.
Division 3 •Bellaire vs. South Lochaber Thistle The home club, Bellaire are coming off a brilliant win last weekend, having won 10-0 away from home and they will be up for this weekend. They are at home to South Lochaber Thistle, the second placed club, will be up for this one, they have been in brilliant form as of late, and will relish this one! SLT will hope the Hungarian striker, Erik Tot will be in form once again, he has enjoyed a brilliant season. SLT had a tough result last time out, but that will just make the club, hungrier to get back on the park this Saturday and play football. This will be a good game. I managed to speak to South Lochaber Thistle, and they have said, “Big away trip to old friends Bellaire this weekend. SLT are looking to get back to winning ways against a strengthened Bellaire side who have been seriously improve this season. It should be an excellent game.” •Busby vs. Boswell In division 2, Busby will be hosting Boswell, a team that have some real talent in their ranks. Talent such as Steven Odunewu, a man that has started this season brilliantly, will be up for this game against Busby. Busby will be ready for this tough game, but they will be excited for it, this Saturday. Boswell did not have a game last weekend, and will be hungry to get back on the park and go for all three points. •Carradale vs. Helensburgh It is Helensburgh’s turn this weekend, to make the trip out to Campbeltown to face Carradale in Division 3, and they will be up for what will be a good game. Helensburgh have started the season in excellent form, having won 3 out of 3 in the league, and they will be up for this contest on Saturday. Carradale had no game last weekend in the end, and will be hungry to get back on the park against the in form Helensburgh. Helensburgh will hope to remain unbeaten after this weekend, they have been on fire and are three points behind top spot, with a game on hand, they added a great dynamic to the top of division 3. I managed to speak to Helensburgh this week, and they have said, “Helensburgh take to the road on Saturday to visit Argyll neighbours Carradale in the league. We are going to have a bit of a keeper crisis this weekend with all three registered keepers unavailable. That along with a good few changes due to work etc has left us a tad short. However it is what it is and we will have to work that bit harder to overcome a Carradale side that are a difficult proposition at their home ground.” •St Thomas vs. Newshot Despite not having a league game, for what will feel like an age, Newshot will be up for this match away at St Thomas in the league. The visitors are still unbeaten and had won all 4 of their opening games before the long break, and will hope to resume to their best straight away. They will know that St Thomas will be a tough game, as the home club are going to be looking to turn around a tough result last weekend. This is going to be an exciting game, and Newshot will hope to settle back into league action very quickly, on Saturday!
Presidents League Cup Section 3 •Westcliff vs. St. Patrick’s FP It is back to Presidents League Cup Section 3 this weekend for Westcliff and St Patricks YM, and they will be up for cup competitions. Westcliff picked up a brilliant win last weekend, winning 3-2 in division 3, an excellent performance. They will take a lot of positives from that game, and they will know that St Patrick’s FP will be hungry for a win after last weekend’s time off. This will be a good cup tie.
