Sunday Central League Round Up: A Cracking Weekend of Football
Sunday Central AFL West of Scotland Cup (Round 2) •Castlemilk Dynamo 1-2 Drumchapel United Two of the very best clubs in the West of Scotland Cup went head to head in a cracking contest. The two sides are on top of their game, they both seemed unstoppable going into this one, but it was the visitors, Drumchapel United that edged this one out, and won the match. Castlemilk Dynamo are a very good side, and they have been in clinical goal scoring form all season, but this weekend, they were involved in an incredible match, in which the result, didn’t go there way. This will not derail Castlemilk Dynamo, when the Sunday Central League Premier 1 is back in full swing, they will be hungry to get back on the park and get back to winning ways. The Drumchapel United goals came from Darren Miller, and Joe Preston and the man of the match was awarded to Jamie Gilmartin. An excellent game, and Drumchapel United are the side to progress through to the next round! I spoke to Castlemilk Dynamo star, Alan Semple, and he said, “tough day at the office for us today. We knew we were in for a tough game against an experienced side. Was a hugely competitive game and feisty, but always played in the right way. Not a lot between two good amateur sides. Dynamo opening the scoring against the run of play in the 1st half, we found our feet after that and had the better of the first 45. Second half seen Drumchapel turn the screw a little and despite not creating many clear-cut chances, deserved their equaliser. They then got a penalty with around 20 mins to go, definite penalty and well taken. We fought back and controlled the remainder of the game, had it not been for a couple of missed chances and a super save from the Drumchapel keeper the outcome could have been different. No real complaints, we fought or fight and it just wasn’t enough on the day. We know we could have played better today and we will be back stronger than ever next week and until the end of the season.” I also spoke to Drumchapel United and they have said, “great game today and some shift put in from the boys. One of the toughest places to go and toughest of opposition. Two good clubs going head to head, in a brilliant high scoring, good spirited Sunday Central League match. I spoke to passionate manager, Steven Sharp, and he said, “A very frustrating Sunday to say the least. I just felt we never really started and it continued throughout the game. When you don't do the simple things right you kinda cause your own problems. If I'm totally honest we were very lucky to get a point. The goal we scored with the last kick of the ball was just unbelievable to watch and I think you'll struggle to see anything like it for a long time to come. Long and short of it my players know that the level of performance we put in today isn't acceptable which after the game they held their hands up so fair play to them accepting responsibility but on a more positive note we are still undefeated and we move on to our next game which is a massive Scottish Cup tie. Not taking anything away from Vale Rangers they played some good football at times and will feel gutted they didn't take all 3 points.” I spoke to Vale Rangers and they have said, “A very very hard one to take today, took the lead with a Scott Cowan free kick and made it 2-0 when Scott knocked the ball on to Logan Park who headed home. Sloppy play again this week from 2 corners tied the game up. We responded immediately when a superb cross from Alan McCabe was met in the air by Scott Cowan for his second making it 3-2. Boys dug deep defending well for the last 15 and with the last kick of the ball their right back played a long ball into our box with nobody near it and our keeper slipped with the ball bouncing into the empty net. Great effort against a good unbeaten side.” •EK Athletic 3-2 Rumours AFC Top of the table EK Athletic, are appearing to be unstoppable as they also remain unbeaten from their first 6 games this season. The goals came from Tad, who scored twice, another double came from Jamie Mitchell. The other goals came from Joe and Kenny W. I spoke to Wellhouse and they have said, “Again today was a tough game. We lost 6-1. But for a large part of the game we were right in it. We went 2 nil down.1 of the goals was a dodgy penalty. We got 1 back early in the 2nd half thru John jaconelli. And we were right in the game. But after 60-65 mins we got a couple on injuries and that disrupted us and then it was a struggle to the end. We just feel that we are not getting any luck just now. But we will work hard and keep believing that first win is just around the corner”
