Overlee Partizans will be serious contenders, not only in the next round, in the whole of this competition, a fantastic club, that are dangerous, and one to look out for throughout the progression of this tournament. Division 2 Carluke Thistle 3-1 Glasgow Rovers Just the one game in division 2 this weekend, as Carluke Thistle played hosts to Glasgow Rovers. Carluke Thistle will be pleased with the win against a very good side, and they sit third in the table, and closing in, on the top 2. Just before the festive break, Glasgow Rovers got their capaign up and running with a big win, showing how they can be dangerous, and not to be underestimated. Before the break they welcomed a new manager, the passionate David Ramsay, and he is jelling the team together in superb fashion, and they will be looking to bounce back from this result, something they know they can do. Carluke Thistle have been well drilled, and have hit the ground running back from the festive period. This win, they will hope is a sign of things to come, as we enter the second half of the season. Carluke Thistle are a side to watch out for, they will be ready to push for top of the table. Division 3 PFD 4-2 Gorbals United Third played PFD picked up a 4-2 win at home to Gorbals United in division 3. PFD remain unbeaten, they are six points behind the league leaders, but they have three games in hand, and they will hope to take momentum from Sunday's three points into the second half of the season. John Monaghan's men were in fantastic form in 2017, and they will hope that 2018, will see similar fortunes, and they can keep a brilliant run of games going. EastEnd Star 3-1 Carluke Victoria Table toppers, EastEnd Star come away with their home game with all three points against Carluke Thistle. EastEnd Star will be pleased with top of the league, and will hope to remain at the top, in a very close and competitive league. Carluke Victoria will hope to put this one behind them and bounce back next weekend. Two very good teams, they will be teams to look out for this season. Division 1 Eastwood Mearns 1-0 Glenmill Thistle On a bitterly cold day, Eastwood Mearns come out with a brilliant win at home to a very good, Glenmill Thistle side. With only a goal in the game, going the way of Eastwood Mearns, Steven Sharp's men will have known they were in a tough contest, but will be delighted to have come out on top, and remain unbeaten in the top division of the Championship. Eastwood Mearns sit third in the table, but they do have the advantage of having games in hand on the league leaders, as well as a game in hand on second place. Glenmill Thistle, have been in fine form also, they are fantastic side, and will be a side to watch in this half of the season, they sit fourth, and will be pushing the teams above them right until the business end of this season. Both clubs are massive contributers to why this is one of the most competitive and entertaining leagues around. I managed to speak to a delighted Steven Sharp and he said, “First game of 2018 and obviously the plan was to start with a bang and get the first 3 points that were up for grabs but we knew we had a tough game ahead of us against a very well organised Glenmill Thistle team and that certainly was the case. I felt the game was pretty scrappy at times and we never really got going or enforced the style of play that we usually do. When you don’t do the things you’re good at throughout a game it can be very frustrating. Having said that though any negative in terms of our own performance gets put on the back burner when you see how much grit and determination my players had to get the vital 3 points. When things aren’t happening for you it’s easy for the heads to go down but we kept going all the way to the final whistle so huge credit to my players. All in all no matter how we got there it was the 3 points we needed and we’ll now work on things at training and prepare for another tough game against Provanmill.” Jon Connolly Darren Doyle Chrissy Murray Danny Doyle Conor Warren Brian Peacock Craig Nicolson Craig Turnbull Braun Gamble Paul Kerr Michael O’Friel Subs Roy Duffy Kieran Mullen Chris Stewart Paddy Brady Jordan Barrett Weir Recreation 3-0 Ek Athletic Fantastic win for Weir Recreation, one of the most in form sides in the whole of the league in 2017, and in 2018 and they have been fantastic and will want it to continue this year. They could not have had a better start to the year as they did on Sunday, a fantastic performance and three points. They were up against the high flying and exceptional EK Athletic, who have been in great form all season long and will hope to bounce back from this one. They have been one of the most in form teams, and will be hungrier as a result of Sunday’s result. Another team to watch out for, they are dangerous all around the park and both clubs are brilliant for the league, making it one of the best and most competitive leagues around. Division 2 Wellhouse 0-3 Blantyre Albion Three points for the Away club, Blantyre Albion and they come away with a massive win. They beat Wellhouse, and the visitors are delighted with an excellent result, and will hope it to continue. Wellhouse will look to bounce back to winning ways. South Lanarkshire Ravens 2-4 Glasgow Star New league leaders in the Championship division 2, as Glasgow Star continue their unbeaten run this weekend, winning 4-2 away from home to South Lanarkshire Ravens. They are unbeaten in their first 8 now, as they beat a strong team, and they will be hoping to remain the only unbeaten club in the league. They have been fantastic before christmas, and they continue to play excellent football and pick up victories, despite a long break. They will take momentum and confidence into next weekend with them, a great side, and a tough team to beat. The Glasgow Star goal scorers were Stuart Ferguson, Derek dick got 2 and Kieran millar got 1. Refs man of the match was Derek dick and the managers man of the match was kriss hodgart who saved a penalty and made a shedload of saves. Division 3 East Lane 6-1 Airdrie Albion One of the most in form and dangerous teams in the first half of the season, was East Lane, and many may have asked how they will get on in the second half, and today's clinical victory may have been a great indiction of how they plan to go about their business. They have been exceptional all season long, and have remained unbeaten this season in the league, winning all, except from one draw. They have been clinical in front of goal, and just to put it in perspective, they have only conceded 7 league goals in 6 league games, and they have scored an incredible 37 goals in just 6 games. Once again proving why they are one of the most, must see teams in the league, they will be delighted with another massive win, and look to continue their form and momentum, something they have been doing all season long. Glasgow Athletic 0-3 Summerston Amateurs Three points, and important points for Summerston Amateurs against Glasgow Athletic this weekend. They played great football last year, in 2017, and they will be hoping 1018 will see a lot of result going their way. Three points has been the perfect way to start this season.
