Both clubs are going to be poised to make a dash for the top couple of spots in the league this year. Provanmill Thistle 0-8 Eastwood Mearns Huge win for Eastwood Mearns as they pick up an 8-0 win on the road, and remain unbeaten in their league campaign. It is very exciting at the top of Championship 1, one of the most competitive leagues, with a win meaning so much, and with every possibility of it coming down to goal difference, so this win was important for Steven Sharp's men. Eastwood Mearns will be pleased with the clean sheet, as well as the 8 goals, and will move onto their next match with spirits running very high. I spoke to Steven Sharp, manager of Eastwood Mearns and he said, “Absolutely delighted with the level of performance my players put in this week. Before the game I made it clear and precise to them my expectations in terms of how we were going to set up and what I expected of them collectively as a team and they most definitely met them so credit to them all. I felt we pretty much dominated the game from start to finish and were never really caused any real trouble. Some of the football we played was a joy to watch and scoring 8 goals was extremely pleasing but for me just as equally pleasing was keeping a second consecutive clean sheet. Credit to Provanmill who despite going through a bit of turmoil recently never gave up and kept going till the final whistle. A great weekend for the club but football can change in an instant so it’s now looking to keep that level of performance consistent and we will look to continue that this weekend” Rumours 3-4 Eastend Rovers Seven goals in this one, but it is Eastend Rovers that comes out on top, picking up all three points. They sit mid table currently, but they will be hoping to continue to climb the table. Goals came from Henry Boyle and Steven Collins, but it was David Quinn who provided an edge scoring two. I managed to speak to Eastend Rovers, and they have said, "Hard fought victory coming back from 1-0 and 2-1 down. Turning point a great penalty save at 2-2 which gave us the momentum." Vale Rangers 1-6 Weir Recreation An excellent performance from Weir Recreation this weekend, picking up a 6-1 win on the road. The goals came from C. Russell, D. McGinnity, and doubles from S. They kicked it up multiple gears in 2017, turning into one of the most in form sides in the league. They have started 2018 in the same way as they left the last year, and continue a fantastic season. They will be a team to watch out for as they have been in brilliant form, and Paul McMahon's men will be hoping to be right up there, come the business end of the season. Broadwood Clyde 0-2 Kilsyth Rovers A great win to kickstart the year for Kilsyth Rovers as they picked up all three points and a clean sheet away to Broadwood Clyde. They put in a brilliant display scoring a goal in each half to kick 2018 off with a bang and most importantly all 3 points. With Kevin McGroarty going from assist manager to manager over the festive break and the brilliant Colin Hughes has stepped down. A great 3 Points for the club, a side that will be a team to watch this year, they have been in fantastic form and Colin Hughes got them off to a great start to the season, and Kevin McGroarty continuing in the same light. They will be hungry to get back on the park and continue to pick up wins and points in the championship 2. I have a match report from Kilsyth Rovers, and it reads, “Broadwood Clyde came out the traps straight away with two chances coming in the first seven minutes, with no luck, Kilsyth then took charge and got the ball down and played with intent and on the sixteenth minute, lovely play down the left by Steven Armstrong with a fantastic ball into Ryan Brown slotted the ball home to put the Rovers one up. Up until half time there was chances for both sides not coming to anything. HT 0-1 In the second half again, was chances for both sides, but with no end result. The referee was solid at his decisions with both sides and handled the game very well considering it was a derby match, but after grit and determination on the seventy fourth minute it was that man again Ryan Brown who popped up to slot home the second after a determined run from Daniel Whyte who was unlucky with his chance! The Rovers then stuck to it and played out the rest of the game with no real concerns. A great three points against our closet rivals and a good first victory for manager Kevin McGroarty. We host Blantyre Albion next week at home and will be expecting the same fight and commitment as this week” Wellhouse 2-4 Glasgow Star Another win for the unbeaten Glasgow Star. They picked up an excellent win last weekend, and today they continue in the same fashion. They have been brilliant this season, and they will be pleased with a great 4-2 win on the road. Brilliant from Glasgow Star again. >Cutting Edge Engravers Championship Division 3 Airdrie Albion 2-3 Queenslie Fantastic Queenslie pick up another three points this weekend in division 3, as they beat Airdrie Albion. Fantastic performance from Queenslie, they are a side to watch in this league. Summerston Amateurs 0-4 Eastwood Mearns B With change taking place at the away club Eastwood Mearns B, there was no change in their form after the Christmas break. An excellent 4-0 win against Summerston Amateurs, and three important points.
